Alan W. Braun led Industrial Contractors Inc. (ICI), a family-owned general, mechanical, and electrical construction company located in Evansville, IN from 1983 to 2011. Continually ranked as one of Engineering News-Record (ENR) Top 400 Contractors, ICI was acquired by Skanska in 2011 and established as Industrial Contractors Skanska, where Alan served as chairman emeritus until his retirement in 2017. Alan also previously served as vice president of Professional Consultants-an ENR Top 500 Design Firm; president of Industrial Equipment; vice president of Tri-State Refractories; and general partner in Braun Realty. Alan has been a longtime member of the University of Evansville's Board of Trustees and served as chairman for 3 years. He was a director of both Old National Bank and Koch Enterprises and served as chair for the Deaconess Hospital Foundation and Junior Achievement of Southwest Indiana. Alan also guided large fund drives for the Habitat for Humanity of Southwestern Indiana and the United Way of Southwestern Indiana. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor of Real Estate and Executive in Residence at FIRE. Prior to Notre Dame, Mike was a Senior Principal at Pennybacker Capital, a real estate private equity firm headquartered in Austin, Texas. Mike served as the firm's COO, CFO, and CCO and led the Capital Formation team's efforts to develop and foster relationships with the firm's existing and prospective limited partners, and was a member of the firm's Investment Committee for 15 years. Mike was instrumental in designing and directing the firm's operational, commercial, and financial strategies as the firm grew from start-up to a multi-strategy investment manager with over $3 billion in assets under management. Robert Karnes is Global Head of Real Estate Debt for BlackRock Real Assets and is a member of the Real Estate Management Committee. Mr. Karnes is responsible for the strategy, investment, and portfolio management of real estate debt investments globally. Prior to joining BlackRock in 2011, he was chief investment officer and partner of Hillenbrand Partners, directing deal sourcing, investment, and portfolio management activities for the firm's high yield real estate debt portfolio. From 1998-2006, he was executive director of Morgan Stanley, where he oversaw real estate investment and portfolio management activities for the firm's proprietary, fixed-income distressed debt business in Europe and Asia. Previously, Mr. Karnes was first vice president of First Chicago Capital Corporation, a leading buyer of subordinate CMBS and high yield real estate debt. Mr. Karnes also has experience in project and construction finance, and began his career in real estate debt finance and investment. Mr. Karnes earned a BBA degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA degree from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council and the Urban Land Institute.
