Andrew Newman

Andrew is Head of Development and a co-founder of Armstrong. A qualified chartered accountant, Andrew has over 18 years' experience in the energy sector. Prior to Armstrong, Andrew worked in Deloitte's project finance team where he advised on large-scale energy and transport infrastructure project, including the Czech Government on its proposed sale of its electricity industry in 2001. Andrew also worked at Triodos Bank in the Netherlands where he was the Senior Investment Manager for the bank's Solar Development Capital fund, where he was responsible for the fund's Asian investments. Andrew is focused on Armstrong's international operations but provides his expertise to the UK operations as required. Andrew has a first class degree from Oxford University.

Chris Carlson - Chief Investment Officer

Chris is the Investment Director at Armstrong focusing on the renewable energy and storage sectors. Prior to joining Armstrong, Chris was an Investment Director at Octopus Renewables, evaluating investments in energy infrastructure assets including solar, storage and flexible generation. Chris has over 20 years of financial and professional services experience, mainly in the real estate and energy industries. Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia, is a Chartered Accountant (Canada) and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

Dr Steve Mahon - Chairman

Dr Steve Mahon is the Chairman and co-founder of Armstrong. He is an experienced investment professional and business entrepreneur with a long career in managing and investing in the environmental sector. He has invested and managed both equity and debt in infrastructure investments across renewable energy, waste, agriculture and real estate, and has a deep experience in infrastructure technologies and growth businesses. Steve has a first class degree and PhD in Geophysics and Planetary Physics.

Helen Robinson

Helen joined Armstrong in July 2019 to head the technical asset management team and has since been promoted to the position of Group Technical Director which sees her span both technical operations and the whole of the development lifecycle, from origination to operation. Helen has over 10 years of experience working in the solar industry: she began her career installing residential and commercial roof-top systems, before moving into operation and maintenance. Prior to joining Armstrong, Helen was Senior Operations Manager for BayWa r.e. Operation Services UK. Helen holds a BEng in Engineering and an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology from Loughborough University, and an MBA from Warwick Business School.

Michael Hughes

Michael is head of operations and investments across the Armstrong group of companies. Michael joined Armstrong in February 2018 and prior to this Michael was a Partner at Downing LLP where he focused on investments in the energy, leisure and lending sectors and was an integral part of the team responsible for growing funds under management at Downing from £200 million to £1 billion. Prior to joining Downing in 2009, Michael was a Divisional Director at Close Investments (part of Close Brother Group plc). Michael has a degree in Geography (BSc) and is a qualified FCCA (2000).

Rebecca Neal - CCO

Rebecca Neal joined the Renewable Connections team in March 2022 as Head of Group Communications for Renewable Connections and Armstrong Capital Management she is responsible for leading corporate and project communications. Rebecca previously worked for RWE and their project investors, leading communications on two UK offshore wind farm projects. Prior to that, as Head of Public Relations for innogy UK, Rebecca managed a team of in-house and external communications professionals working across the UK on onshore wind, hydro and biomass development and construction projects. Rebecca has also worked in local and national Government, managing media relations during the 2005 G8 Summit in Perthshire and 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis in the Scottish Borders. Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Arts (degree with Honours) in Corporate Communications.

Richard Sloper

Richard heads up Armstrong's internal management and reporting team. He is a Chartered Accountant with 18 years qualified experience. Before Joining Armstrong in 2017, Richard built a consulting and support business providing surge support across a portfolio of clients, focusing on transactional work including trade sales, IPOs, management buy-outs and valuations. Prior to this, Richard was at KPMG for 10 years, where he worked with a variety clients, notably across the international energy sector, supporting his clients across both traditional statutory responsibilities as well as transactional support.
