Research in my lab is strongly applied. I have a wet-lab, where we are using engineering techniques to understand cell mechanics, and how airway smooth muscle contracts and becomes dangerous in asthma, and we collaborate with researchers across the country... My laboratory is doing biomedical engineering research to understand and help manage and treat respiratory disease. We develop new tools to measure airway cell biomechanics and behaviour for asthma research, and develop new medical devices for measurement of lung disease in patients with asthma or COPD, and we develop models that integrate lung function measurement.
