Chloe Veterinary

Chloe grew up here in the Cowichan Valley before moving to Alberta for college. While there, she completed her veterinary technician schooling and spent several years working in Edmonton. Having had enough of the cold she moved back to Duncan in 2020 and joined us here at Prevost Vet. At home, she has a cat named Emery, who keeps her busy by always finding somewhere new to climb and hide.

Dr. Bonnie Baines

Dr. Baines grew up in Delta and attended UBC, where she received her undergraduate degree in Microbiology/Immunology. She attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2012 when she moved to the Cowichan Valley. In her spare time, Dr. Baines' loves hiking, exploring, and taking photographs - although she is slow to process them! Her love of travelling has led her to Scotland, Romania, Iceland and Costa Rica as well as the snake dens in Narcisse, Manitoba. She loves surfing, the west coast and water warmers. Her kitties, Merlin and Socksie, have been her loving companions since 2005. Dr. Baines is very involved with CAAT spay, neuter and vaccine projects which provides veterinary services to First Nations Communities in need. She enjoys being part of the supportive, caring and fun-loving atmosphere at Prevost!

Dr. Kyle Clarke

Dr. Kyle Clarke joined the Prevost Vet team in 2016 upon graduating from Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. He completed his BSc (Biochemistry) in Victoria, where he also worked for several years in animal health research. He was thrilled to again call Vancouver Island home. Dr. Clarke loves exploring the beautiful Cowichan Valley with his wife and two children. In his spare time, Kyle enjoys cycling, skiing and hiking. Dr. Clarke has a special interest in ultrasonography and internal medicine. He is excited to be part of the team at Prevost and is dedicated to being a knowledgeable, compassionate and sensitive doctor for your pet.

Dr. Nicola Mawson B.

Dr. Mawson graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2019. She moved to the island soon after and has completely fallen in love with island life. When not at work, Dr. Mawson and her dog Kip can be found exploring the outdoors and enjoying the great activities that Duncan has to offer: hiking, running, mountain biking, rock climbing, and soccer. Dr. Mawson provides a compassionate and open-minded approach to veterinary medicine, believing that you and your pet's quality of life are of utmost importance. Whatever your pet's needs are, Dr. Mawson is dedicated to providing the best possible care and is proud to be part of the Prevost family.

Dr. Nicole Straker M.

Dr. Straker is new to Canada and is currently a Provisional Supervised Veterinarian in BC. Having achieved her DVM from the University of the West Indies and her Masters degree in Animal Behaviour in England, Dr. Nicole had her own mobile vet practice in Trinidad and Tobago along with lots of work with the SPCA in that area. She recently moved to Canada to pursue better career opportunities and to work with people who share her passion for animals. Aside from completing her exams for her BC Vet License (she has completed her written exams) - Netball, Ultimate Frisbee, Tennis, Badminton, Hiking and Latin Dancing are just some of her hobbies. Hopefully her mixed breed dog from Trinidad and Tobago will join her here before too long!

Dr. Sophie Scotter

Sophie has recently relocated to Vancouver Island from the UK, where she qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2022. Prior to embarking on a career in veterinary medicine, Sophie obtained her degree in Zoology from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, with a focus on marine mammal conservation. Her fieldwork for her dissertation on humpback whales brought her to the wild coast of the Great Bear Rainforest back in 2013, and she has longed to return to BC ever since. Sophie also spent 3 years living and working in Arctic Norway before vet school, conducting whale and walrus research in Greenland and Svalbard with the Norwegian Polar Institute.

Heather Lead

Heather has been working at Prevost since January 2018. She has her BFA from the University of Victoria, has volunteered at Wild ARC and worked at Queen Margaret equestrian centre. She is very interested in animal behaviour, training and has done some fostering. Currently, she has two cats, a dog, some fish and a human child.

Jeanie Veterinary

Jeanie joined the Prevost team after completing the Veterinary Technology program at Thompson Rivers University. Originally from the Comox Valley, she was born and raised on the island. Her interest in animal care stemmed from a very young age and her first official job working with animals started at a dog boarding and daycare facility. You will often see her accompanied by her trusty sidekick Russell, a barn kitty turned spoiled house kitty from Cowichan Cat Rescue, who loves to hang out at the clinic as a designated emotional support animal!

Mallory Preston

  • Mallory Preston Practice Manager
Mallory grew up in Cowichan Valley loving the outdoors and animals. She joined Prevost Veterinary Clinic in 2013 after completing the Animal Care Aide program at VIU. She has worked in the clinic as a veterinary assistant, as reception and as floor manager before working at the Mill Bay Veterinary Hospital as Practice Manager for a couple of years before returning to Prevost. Mallory and her partner have a large family of animals at home: four dogs and four cats: Milo, Doug, Phyllis, Benny, Jack, Popcorn, Donkey, Joey, & a property full of chickens.

Willow Veterinary

Willow has lived on the island for her whole life. She lives the tiny house life with her highland cow, goat, and various other adorable farm animals. Before working in a clinic she worked with animals in the SPCA. She is currently in the midst of becoming a registered veterinary Technician.
