We are all addicted. In fact the addiction and motivation are based on the same brain messages that make us happy. Addiction only becomes "Addiction" when it becomes pathological which in turn can lead to harm... To understand addiction in general within oneself, it requires an understanding of how the brain works. Put most simply, the thing or substance we are addicted to sends us a message and a promise, that YOU, your mind yourself truly believes. For example, in the case of a smoker, it may be a promise of "feel good", relaxation, stress release. Often we have habits and addictions of which we are not cognizant about what the internal "promise" is.
