Another common use of CAD API is to use rules to automate the design of 'Change Parts' for machinery. In the packaging industry for example, Change Parts will be fitted to a machine to allow it to manufacture a particular size of carton. If the producer wants to make a different size of carton then the Change Parts are swapped over for a set designed to produce cartons of that size. Our customers had manual processes for creating these Change Parts using sets of ‘out-of-scale' 2D drawings.
