Dr. Paul Maslin

On Tuesdays and Saturdays I work with the field manager, Paul Maslin (professor emeritus, biological sciences). First thing in the morning we load up an ATV with tools and head out - sometimes all the way across the creek to isolated Musty Buck Ridge. Typical tasks include creating fire breaks, removing invasive plants, and maintaining trails.

Kate Transchel, Professor of Russian History: "I find myself really enjoying authentic ethnic food.For my spicy Indian craving, I like to eat at Priya on The Esplanade. They have an amazing lunch buffet and really tasty vegetarian dishes. When I'm feeling like having Italian, I like to head over to Sicilian Café. I love the location with the creek side setting and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the cuisine!"

Maija Glasier-Lawson

Matt Ritenour

Matt Ritenour started working with California State University, Chico's Advanced Laboratory for Visual Anthropology (ALVA) as a student in 2012. Since graduating in 2013, he has continued working with the lab, filming and editing documentaries that cover a wide array of topics. His most recent project-and his first as a director-is Impact of the Frolic, which won a Northern California-area Emmy Award on June 6, 2015. The documentary is a work of both auditory and visual storytelling, taking viewers through forests, over oceans, and across continents. It retraces archaeologist Thomas Layton's discovery and research of an opium clipper that wrecked off the shores of Mendocino, California, in 1850, creating global connections that would change California forever. I appreciate the Pale Ale because it's a Chico institution and Celestino's pizza because he's a Jersey guy like me, and I grew up on East Coast pizza."

I have the world's best job. As the education and research coordinator for CSU, Chico's Ecological Reserves I get to do both of the things that I love most: sharing my love of nature with others and getting my hands dirty as I help protect the reserve's natural resources.

Steve Lewis, Professor of Latin American History: "My favorite is Thai food. When I'm on campus, I like to walk downtown to Thai Basil on 2 nd Street, but if I'm on the south end of town, Cocodine Thai Cuisine is the place to go!"
