MOMENTS

Published monthly by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) (a member-based professional society), JOM is a technical journal devoted to exploring the many aspects of materials science and engineering... A Great Materials Moment is defined as a pivotal or capstone event of human observation and/or intervention that led to a paradigm shift in humanity's understanding of materials behavior, that introduced a new era of materials utilization, and/or that yielded significant materials-enabled socio-economic changes... The list of 100 nominees was arrived upon via a multi-step process conducted by JOM's editorial staff. It began with an inventory of more than 600 candidate moments compiled via a review of the literature and solicitation of input from TMS technical committee members, editorial review boards of peer-reviewed journals that cover materials science and engineering, and other respected members of the materials community.
