I was an enthusiastic swimmer in my youth, but searching for a new challenge, I caught the triathlon bug in 2005.
My life with triathlon began by entering a mini tri at castle country club in 2005. Before this I had ran at half marathon distance.
I was lucky enough to be asked to join the coaching team of the newly founded SYTri and have enjoyed and improved in the Swim, bike and run experience.
I have taken part and enjoyed many sprint tri's and also tried to increase the distance.
I love being a member of SYTri for the training and social sides.
Qualifications
British Triathlon Federation - Level 2 Coach
Afraid of deep water John had adult swimming lessons in 1997 and pushed himself to do a sprint triathlon. He's now done over forty and loves the challenge
I have previously played football in the League of Wales and took to running after retiring from this.
My connection to Triathlon started back in 2015 when I decided I wanted a new challenge so entered the Shrewsbury Sprint Triathlon. I had previously been a keen runner but really enjoyed the variety of the different disciplines and the challenge of a new sport. I straight away fell in love with Triathlon and since then I have raced at distances from the super sprint to half ironman.
I joined the activator team in 2018 and since then have been leading some of our Sunday cycle rides. They are a great way to get into group riding and to meet other members. I used these rides regularly when I first joined and was keen to give something back by leading a few myself. I am also starting my coaching journey with British Triathlon which will hopefully help me to support even more members with their Triathlon journey !

My own sporting enthusiasm is for the sport of Triathlon. I started in 1995, barely able to swim two lengths of the pool.
