When not on stage, Charles is passionate about education reform and the growing need for increased academic achievement of all students. He was the recipient of the 2016 Educator of the Year Award from the West University Rotary Club and directed the Musical Theatre program for Houston's prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts from 2011-2019... Prior to accepting his role at DSOA, Charles worked Off-Broadway as Associate Director to Michael Wilson on Signature Theatre's revival of Horton Foote's Pulitzer Prize winning The Young Man from Atlanta. Before that, he served as Associate Director/Choreographer to Michael Wilson on the Ahmanson Theatre & Bay Street Theatre's production of Grey Gardens starring famed Tony Award Winner Betty Buckley.
