ANNETTE C. REBOLI

ANNETTE C. REBOLI, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and the Dean of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) in Camden, NJ. As such, she is the Chief Academic Officer with ultimate responsibility for all areas of the school. Prior to this, she was Founding Vice Dean and was responsible for oversight of the LCME accreditation process, undergraduate and graduate medical education, faculty affairs and faculty development, and developing affiliations for the medical school. Dr. Reboli received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biology from Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences in Washington, DC. She received her medical degree cum laude from Georgetown University School of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society during medical school. She completed an internship, residency, and a year as Chief Medical Resident in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, followed by a three-year clinical and research fellowship in infectious diseases at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Prior to becoming Founding Vice Dean, she served as Interim Dean of CMSRU and was also the Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Deputy Chief for Administration of the Department of Medicine at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ, where she also served as the hospital epidemiologist. Dr. Reboli is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She has authored or co-authored more than 180 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and abstracts. Dr. Reboli has been named a "Top Doctor" in a variety of magazines, including New Jersey Monthly, Philadelphia Magazine, South Jersey Magazine, SJ Magazine, and Consumer's Checkbook. She has been recognized by Who's Who and Best Doctors in America. She has served on several committees for Camden County and the state of New Jersey, volunteering her expertise in infectious diseases. Dr. Reboli's main research interest is in candidemia and other forms of invasive candidiasis. Over the course of her career, she has garnered more than $15,000,000 in research support from a variety of sources, including NIH, NIAID, private foundations, and private industry. She also served as a consultant to Janssen, Vicuron, Pfizer, and Merck Pharmaceutical Company on antimicrobial drug development and clinical trial design. During her tenure as Division Head of Infectious Diseases, she established a comprehensive clinical research program that led the Department of Medicine in external funding. In 2008, she received the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Dean's Research Award in the faculty-clinical sciences category for research on antifungal therapy that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. She serves on the Candida Infections Guidelines Committee of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. She has received several teaching awards and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and the Philadelphia College of Physicians. She served as the President of the Medical Staff of the Cooper Health System from 2011-2015. In 2016, Dr. Reboli received the Healthcare Professional of the Year award from the New Jersey Hospital Association.

ANTHONY J. MAZZARELLI, MD, JD, MBE is Co-President/CEO of Cooper University Health Care. Dr. Mazzarelli has had various roles at Cooper since his arrival in 1999. His most recent role prior to being named Co-President/CEO of Cooper University Health Care was as Chief Physician Executive and Senior Executive Vice President. In that position he had oversight of Quality and Patient Safety for the health system as well as oversight of Cooper's practice plan of more than 630 employed physicians who also serve as the faculty for Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Prior to that role, he was Senior Vice President of Operations and Deputy Chief Medical Officer, where he reorganized the Quality and Patient Safety Department, which led Cooper to its recent first-time recognition as a "Top Performer" by The Joint Commission. Under his leadership, Cooper also realized significant improvement in the nationally recognized quality and safety Leapfrog Report Card. In 2011, Dr. Mazzarelli helped start Cooper's new Process Improvement office, which has included the introduction of continuous process improvement principles, such as Lean Six Sigma, as a methodology for operational efficiency improvements. Prior to that role, he was Vice President of Strategic Planning and Implementation and was responsible for assisting in the development of the latest strategic plan for the health system as well as other business development projects. He was also one of the three original team members to work on integrating Cooper and Rowan in preparation for the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Dr. Mazzarelli received his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, his law degree from University of Pennsylvania Law School and his master's in bioethics from University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. He trained in Emergency Medicine at Cooper University Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident and later as the Medical Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine. In 2009, he was recognized as one of Philadelphia's "Best Physicians Under 40." In 2010, he was awarded the Halo Award by the South Jersey Professionals Association for leading a team of 18 health care providers from Cooper into Haiti in the days immediately following the 2010 earthquake. In 2012, Dr. Mazzarelli was named one of the 50 most powerful people in New Jersey health care by NJ Biz. A member of the board of trustees for the YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties, as well as the Camden Coalition of Health Care Providers, Dr. Mazzarelli has also received commendations for his leadership, and was named an Outstanding Young American by the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce.

JUSTICE FAUSTINO FERNANDEZ-VINA

JUSTICE FAUSTINO FERNANDEZ-VINA was born on Feb. 15, 1952, in Santiago, Cuba. His family escaped persecution by the communist government led by Fidel Castro as a young boy, eventually settling in South Jersey. He attended Haddon Heights High School, playing football for an undefeated team that went on to win a state championship his senior year. He went on to college at Widener University to play for a powerhouse college football program and was the co-captain of the 1973 team that featured running back and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Billy "White Shoes" Johnson and NFL All-Pro center Joseph Fields. Upon graduating from Widener with a degree in history, Fernandez-Vina attended Rutgers University School of Law-Camden and graduated in 1978. Before entering private practice, he served as a law clerk to Superior Court Judge E. Stevenson Fluharty. During his first tenure in private practice, Fernandez-Vina became a certified civil trial attorney and served on the District IV Ethics Committee, the Supreme Court Committee on Character and the Supreme Court Committee on Jury Selection. In 2004, then Governor James McGreevey appointed Fernandez-Vina to the Superior Court bench. He was the first Latino nominated to the Superior Court from Camden County and sat in the civil division of the Camden Vicinage. He moved to the family division in 2006 and was named presiding judge of the civil division on February 1, 2007. Chief Justice Stuart Rabner named him assignment judge of the Camden Vicinage on January 11, 2012. While on the bench, Fernandez-Vina served on a number of committees, including the Supreme Court Ad Hoc Committee on the Code of Judicial Conduct and the Supreme Court Civil Practice Committee. Fernandez-Vina was nominated to the Supreme Court by Governor Chris Christie on September 30, 2013, and was sworn into office on November 19, 2013, following confirmation by the state Senate. He continued to serve as an associate justice on the New Jersey Supreme Court from November 2013 until he retired in February 2022, at the mandatory retirement age of 70. Justice Fernandez-Vina is currently practicing law with the law firm of Parker McCay.

In 2019, the Cooper University Health Care Board of Trustees named Mr. O'Dowd as Co-Chief Executive Officer. He began his career at Cooper as the health system's Chief Administrative Officer and was later appointed to the position of Co-President. Before joining Cooper in 2014, Mr. O'Dowd served for nearly four years in the Office of the Governor for the State of New Jersey, initially holding the position of Counsel to the Governor and then Chief of Staff to the Governor. Prior to joining the Office of the Governor, Mr. O'Dowd was the Chief of the Securities and Health Care Fraud Unit in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey. During his seven-year tenure as a federal prosecutor, he investigated and prosecuted cases ranging from computer hacking and intellectual property theft to complex health care, securities, and financial fraud. While at the U.S. Attorney's Office, he also served as the chair of the Health Care Task Force, which comprised the leading federal and state health care fraud investigators and prosecutors in the State of New Jersey. While at the U.S. Department of Justice, Mr. O'Dowd was a frequent panelist and speaker on health care matters. Hewas twice awarded the Integrity Award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Award for Excellence from the U.S. President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency. Seton Hall University School of Law also awarded him with the St. Thomas More Medal for his distinguished public service. Before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2003, Mr. O'Dowd served as Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey for nearly five years. He earned his BA from The Catholic University of America and his JD from St. John's University School of Law. MARTHA S. MATTHEWS, MD, FACS is the President of the Medical Staff of Cooper University Health Care and the first female Professor of Surgery at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU). She has been a member of the Cooper Medical Staff since 1989. Dr. Matthews received her undergraduate degree at the Pennsylvania State University and is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. She completed training in General Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and went on to complete training in Plastic Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical College. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition to her role as Medical Staff President, Dr. Matthews is also the Medical Director of the Regional Cleft Palate Program and Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee. She serves on a number of committees in the Cooper Health System and at CMSRU. She served as Head of the Division of Plastic Surgery from 1999 to 2013, and was the Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program from 1999 to 2018. She is active in leadership positions in a number of national organizations, including service as a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Chair of the American Cleft Palate Association Committee on Approval of Teams. Dr. Matthews' clinical specialties include pediatric plastic surgery, particularly cleft lip and palate; cosmetic surgery; and trauma. She has been the recipient of more than 60 top doctor awards both locally and nationally, as well as the Cooper University Hospital Outstanding Physician award. PETER E. PETER S. AMENTA

PETER S. AMENTA, MD, PhD, a Cooper Board Member since 2006, most recently served as the President and CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center (2015-2019), the world-renowned institute centered on diabetes treatment and research. A former member of Joslin's Board of Trustees, Dr. Amenta is also a well-known clinician and scientist with significant administrative experience in medical education, clinical management, and research development. Dr. Amenta served as the Dean of UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and became the founding dean of Rutgers-RWJMS in 2013; the CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Group, the faculty medical practice and a faculty member/practitioner of Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and University Hospital from 1989 to 2015, respectively. During his 26-plus years at RWJMS and the University Hospital, Dr. Amenta held a number of key administrative positions, including Residency Program Director, Chief of the Pathology Service and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief of Staff at RWJUH, and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at RWJMS. He was the founding Director of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey's Immunohistochemistry Shared Resource, and a member of the Cancer Institute's Scientific Council and Internal Advisory Board. He is a board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist. His research contributed to our understanding of novel connective tissue components during development and disease, as well as the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal diseases. He served on the Editorial Board of Human Pathology and as a reviewer for a number of other clinical and research journals. He has published more than 175 manuscripts, chapters and abstracts, including co-editing the textbook Histology-From Normal Microanatomy to Pathology. He is also a member at large of the National Board of Medical Examiners.
