CUSTOM AWARDS LONG ISLAND

Custom Awards was founded in the early 70's by a Rockville Centre resident, Sam Macelli, who began making plaques in his garage as a hobby. After a neighbors complaint, the business was moved to its current location at 145 N. Park Avenue, Rockville Centre. After nearly 10 years, it was sold to a New York City Fireman, George DeRoth, who kept the store for nearly 20 before selling it to 3 Nassau County detectives, George Geyer, Lenny Miller and Bernie Havern... The owner of Custom Awards, Brian, has an extensive background in public safety. Beginning in 1981, he worked as a police officer with the NYPD for five years before transferring to the Amityville Village Police in 1985 where he retired as Sergeant 27 years later. He also served as Assistant Chief of the Amityville Fire Department from 1990 to 1996 and Chief of Department from 1996 to 1998.
