I was mesmerised for hours on end by their stories of hardship and happiness. I remember them reflecting on how tough times were during the Great Depression, through the wars, and how they came through it all with the help of mateship. They raised their family under difficult circumstances, as did others with little, and life's luxuries were a dream. I learned about our family tree, and when I had my daughter I was determined she should also hear my parents' wonderful stories of adventure. So over too many cups of tea, and way too many biscuits she learned about a completely different era, where they grew up, etc.
