MOHICAN GREENWAY

The Wally Road Scenic Byway and the Mohican Scenic River Valley serves as the lifeline for up to 1 million visits per year from regional, national, and international tourists. These visits generate millions of dollars per year for the local economy, but safety and parking issues, along with minimal pedestrian and internet infrastructure, limit the true potential of the river valley. In 2019, the Mohican Greenway Corridor Study gathered public input, studied how to improve the quality of life of residents, local business owners, and visitors, and created a plan for how to improve safety, connectivity, and economic energy within the corridor. As funding is secured, the plan will be implemented, starting with the construction of the Spellacy Covered Bridge and Phase 1 of a multi-use trail. Once complete, the Mohican Greenway will integrate with the beautiful scenery that draws visitors to the area, while making transportation safer and more equitable for those who call the river valley..
