CANDY RODO

After many years as a journalist, Candy Rodo has been working in educational publishing for over two decades. Candy is an accomplished writer who is well-acquainted with digital content and social media. With her extensive experience in the industry, she has put her skills to work as the public relations advisor to the New Vistas in Education Foundation. A native speaker of Spanish, she also takes special care of products dedicated to English Language Learners.

CAROL NEWTON

Carol is a trail-blazing New Jersey attorney, the first woman and first African American appointed as a municipal judge in Passaic County, New Jersey. Carol began her law career during the civil rights movement of the 1960s. After starting her own legal practice, she was appointed a municipal judge and was then named Paterson, New Jersey's presiding judge in 1993. Carol is also a children's book author. Her story, "Nicky Saves the Day," narrates the tale of an urban youth who overcomes his problems with neighborhood bullies. Carol's advocacy for increasing literacy is what inspired her to write this book.

DR. DALE CALDWELL

Dale is the CEO of Strategic Influence LLC and a member of the New Brunswick Board of Education. With a bachelor's degree from Princeton University, an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, and a doctorate from Seton Hall University, Caldwell is a highly sought-after public speaker and the author of several books on strategic influence.

DR. DONNA ELAM

Donna is the president and CEO of Elam Leadership Institute, a national think tank for education leadership development. A nationally recognized author and authority in diversity and cultural competence research and training, Elam focuses on equity in education for diverse populations. She holds a master's and a doctorate from New York University where she also served as the Director of the Equity Assistance Center.

DR. EDWARD POWE

Edward is the founder and president of the BLAC Foundation. Awarded a PhD in African languages from the University of Wisconsin, a master's in linguistics with a minor in Arabic from Indiana University, and a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of New Mexico, Powe was a Fulbright scholar in Brazil, a Ford Foundation scholar in Columbia and a C.A.S.A. Fellow in Cairo, Egypt. Fluent in nine languages, he has authored over 100 books and served as the linguistics lead on a prize-winning solution in the Global Learning XPRIZE competition funded by Elon Musk.

DR. RICHARD SMITH

Richard is the former CEO of McGraw Hill and past president of Scott Foresman, Houghton Mifflin, and Riverside. One of the most recognized experts in educational publishing, Smith has a PhD from Ohio State University and has led companies that together provided more than 50% of all instructional materials to the school market.

HELEN BREEN

Helen is a publishing executive with direct experience managing the convergence of content with different technologies. She is a team leader with skills in project management and corporate communications. With her fellow board members, she shares an avid interest in the future of education and the possibilities of reaching underserved students with new technologies.

HERBERT BELLAMY - CEO, Chairman

Herbert is the CEO of Bellamy Enterprises and Chair of the Board of the Buffalo Sewer Authority. He is also the CEO of Buffalo's Black Achievers, Inc., which has honored over 2,000 recipients in Buffalo in order to demonstrate to the community the variety and quality of achievements of Black people in Buffalo. The Black Achievers Museum is dedicated to the celebration and study of the Buffalo region's African American heritage and Black contributions to western New York's history and future.

JASON POWE

Jason is co-founder of New Vistas in Education Foundation and Executive Vice President of Curriculum Concepts International (CCI). He focuses on digital strategies, including app and iPad development for the Foundation. An author of many nonfiction children's books, Jason is a Harvard University graduate, where he tutored at-risk students and published a thesis on closing the achievement gap. He has continued his commitment through his advocacy for underserved children and their unique needs.

JOSH POWE

Josh has over 15 years of experience in educational publishing and educational technology. He is a co-founder of LinkIt!, an emerging leader in assessment and instructional delivery technology, serving the needs of K-12 school districts and publishers. In addition to his responsibilities with LinkIt!, Josh also manages and consults on New Vistas in Education Foundation's digital development initiatives.

REGINALD POWE

Reggie is co-founder of New Vistas in Education Foundation and Curriculum Concepts International (CCI). CCI's primary mission is to address the instructional needs of urban students. In addition to many other consulting assignments throughout his career, Reggie worked with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Education. Before joining these corporations, Reggie served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was an Infantry commander and a training and logistics officer.
