Calvin J Kubo

completing his bachelors, he was accepted to Loma Linda University, School of Medicine in 1979, and four years thereafter joined the Hinsdale Family Practice residency program. In 1986 Dr. Kubo, receiving his board certification in Family Practice, commenced as a Staff Physician for Mid-Carolina Medical Center in North Carolina. Dr. Kubo moved to Bakersfield in 1990 to work at several local hospitals and ventured into opening a private practice in 1992, which eventually burgeoned into Golden Valley Medical Associates. Since then Dr. Kubo has built a terrifically thriving practice that is highly valued by its patients. In medical school, Dr. Kubo participated in various research programs, including neurosurgery and clinical statistics. He has co-authored clinical studies and has been the recipient of multiple academic and medical awards. Dr. Kubo has held various hospital committee positions and was on the steering committee for the formation of GEMCare. As a senior physician in family medicine, Dr. Kubo is appreciated by his patients for the time and consideration he provides during visits. In 2010, Golden State Hospitalist group hired Dr. Ugoh as a hospitalist and appointed her as the Corporate Secretary. Dr. Ugoh ranked in the top 10 graduates from her medical school. With a strong academic background, she engaged in various research projects at Kern Medical Center. As a researcher, she has presented at various medical conferences on subject matter such as Infectious Disease and Critical Care Medicine. As a hospitalist, Dr. Ugoh is highly skilled in creating treatment plans for hospitalized patients. Additionally she organizes a multidisciplinary team of clinicians to assist in more complicated cases. By structuring strategies to improve patient health, Dr. Ugoh not only assesses and manages patients, but also endeavors to introduce lifestyle changes to promote better health. Dr. Kirit Desai

Dr. Kirit Desai completed his Internal Medicine Residency in 1982 from Edgewater Hospital in Illinois. Thereafter, he had a short stint as an ER physician before joining the Cardiovascular Fellowship Program at Columbus Hospital in Illinois. On finishing Cardiovascular training, he practiced at El Centro Hospital in California. Dr. Desai also specializes in Cardiac CT, diagnosis of cardiac conditions by CT scan. Grateful for the warm California climate, Dr. Desai finally established roots in Bakersfield. In his endeavor to improve patient lives, Dr. Desai ensures that each of his patients is afforded the most effective treatment regimen. He combines both non-invasive and surgical interventions for managing cardiovascular cases. Dr. Lorene Rodriguez

Dr. Lorene Rodriguez completed her Family Medicine residency from Emory University, School of Medicine and continued on at Emory to pursue Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine. Following her fellowship, Dr. Rodriguez remained in Georgia for several years practicing as an Attending Physician and Medical Director at a senior medical center. Dr. Rodriguez and her family consider Bakersfield home after many years of hop scotching the country. As a testament to her affinity for medicine, Dr. Rodriguez first started her career as registered nurse and after six fulfilling years chose to attend medical school. She currently enjoys the accelerated pace as an Urgent Care provider, but above all Dr. Rodriguez appreciates engaging with all ages during her daily practice. Dr. Ashraf-Alim has served as consultant of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorder Medicine at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, Mercy Truxtun Hospital, and Bakersfield Heart Hospital. He then went on to establish the Golden State Hospitalists group for which he serves as the Medical Director. He completed Cardiology Fellowship from UCLA/West Los Angeles VA and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. Dr. Sharma is Board Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology. He joined the elite group of his peers from Cedars at Central Cardiology in 2000. Besides being exceptionally trained, he is experienced in interventional cardiology, practicing coronary and peripheral interventions including carotid stenting and aortic aneurysm endovascular stent graft repair. Dr. Sharma has been a pioneer researcher, conducting many research trials and proposing many original ideas and inventions. Dr. Sarabjeet Singh

Dr. Singh became Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology in 2011 and then shortly thereafter moved to Bakersfield, CA to practice. Both in Residency and Fellowship, Dr. Singh was selected as a clinical instructor and Chief Cardiology Fellow to guide and mentor Cardiology fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and medical students. While in residency, Dr. Chandrasekaran was appointed as the Chief Resident where she led and mentored medical students and residents. Additionally, she participated in Coccidioidal Meningitis research, a highly prevalent illness in Kern County. Dr. William F. Baker

Dr. William F. Baker attended Foothill High School and Bakersfield College and graduated from the University of California, Irvine Medical School in 1975. He remained at UC Irvine to pursue an Internal Medicine residency and became Board Certified in 1978. He also has added qualification in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine and is certified by the International Board of Thrombosis, Hemostasis, and Vascular Medicine. Dr. Baker is a Fellow of American College of Physicians. Dr. Baker returned to Bakersfield in 1978 entering the private practice of Internal Medicine. While teaching at Kern Medical Center for over 20 years, Dr. Baker was appointed as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. Additionally, he has served as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital. Dr. Baker established the Cardiac Rehabilitation at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital in 1982 and was the Director until 2015 when he became the Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation at Bakersfield Heart Hospital. In recognizing his ability to manage patients with complex illnesses, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital has bestowed on him the Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Baker takes great interest in the management of patients with Internal Medicine, Sports Medicine, and blood clotting problems. During his career, Dr. Baker has published over 35 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, authored book chapters, and has been recognized for excellence in teaching medical students, residents, nurses and community physicians. Dr. Baker enjoys fly fishing, playing golf, travelling, and camping. As an adoring grandfather, he cherishes leisure time with his wife Sharon and eight grandchildren. For over forty years, he has served as the Team Physician for Bakersfield College and can be seen on the sidelines at most games. Dr. Baker has received numerous awards including induction into the Foothill High School Hall of Fame, Kern County Bob Ellis Sports Hall of Fame and has received a Lifetime Achievement award from the Bakersfield College Foundation. Idalia C. Ablin

Dr. James Foster Campbell attended California Lutheran University for his B.Sc. and enticed by the wintry climate of Fargo, North Dakota, he earned his M.Sc. from North Dakota State University. He continued his academic journey at University of North Dakota School of Medicine and on graduating, he chose to return to the warmer Californian environs to join the Family Practice residency at Kern Medical Center. In 1995, Dr. Campbell became board certified in Family Medicine and practiced as staff physician for several healthcare organizations in Bakersfield before hanging out his shingle for private practice. His passion for an adventurous life drew Dr. Campbell to all sorts of extra- and curricular activities. Aside from engaging in an occasional gig with his band playing guitar and singing, he organized and chaired college fraternity Rush weeks and presided over the University Honor Society. Prior to joining Central Cardiology, Natalia worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner, an Operating Room/ Recovery Registered Nurse in inpatient and outpatient settings in different hospitals and surgical centers and a travel Nurse. Natalia has nursing experience and education in various areas of patient care including Neurology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, ENT, Urology, OB/GYN, and Pediatrics. As a native of Peru, Natalia speaks Spanish fluently. Being able to interact with patients, families and community at the most vulnerable parts of their life makes her feel accomplished. During her free time, Natalia loves salsa dancing, cooking with family and friends and traveling to explore new cultures.

Dr. Patel attended Verr Nramad Surat, South Gujarat University Medical School in India. On arriving to the United States, he joined the Internal Medicine Residency Program affiliated with University of Illinois, Chicago. After completion of his three-year residency, Dr. Patel found an opportunity to move to Bakersfield and leave behind the bone-chilling winters of Chicago. As an established physician, he has practiced in Kern since 1990. With immense passion for clinical practice, Dr. Patel takes the time to get to know his patients and render care based on the individual's life style goals. To maintain currency with new medical practice guidelines and treatments, Dr. Patel continuously reviews clinical literature. He strongly believes in effective communication with his patients in order to reach full patient compliance. At the end of the day, Dr. Patel will call patients to convey clinical results, brief them on what to expect before a procedure, and follow up on their general well-being. Ruby Ramos commenced her career in nursing in 2006 as an RN in the Philippines. On shifting to Bakersfield in 2010, Ruby has been employed as a telemetry, medical surgery, and post acute nurse for several local hospitals. She became a Nurse Practitioner, board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and licensed by the state of California in 2014 to provide family-centered healthcare. Prior to her healthcare profession, Ruby owned and operated several successful service-based businesses in the Philippines. Although finding her true calling later in life, Ruby has developed a strong affinity for the practice of medicine. Over the last 12 years, Ruby has gained experience in various clinical fields (Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, and Telemetry). Besides clinical care management, she educates her patients about their illnesses so they can take charge of their health and fear less of the unknown. Establishing a strong and trusting relationship with patients, Ruby conducts a thorough evaluation of each patient by taking the time to listen and understand their needs. Ruby uses evidence-based medicine to appropriately diagnose and treat. In her free time, Ruby plans fun activities with family and friends. Her self-confessed indulgence is for Hershey Chocolate Bars and comedy shows. Her professional goal is to be a humble Nurse Practitioner who serves her community well.
