Anne Elliott - Managing Director

With over 30 years of experience, Anne established ema consultancy in 2006, having previously held 4 wide ranging director posts across the housing, not-for-profit and 2 PLC Companies. She is regarded as a leader in the field of Board and Non-Executive Search and Selection delivering on over 500 campaigns across a range of sectors. Anne has been able to use her networks, relationships and the EMA search to help organisations appoint outstanding talent. Anne has significant experience and a successful track record of leading on major change exercises, including mergers, amalgamations, restructures, transformational and cultural change. She has also worked with organisations to appraise and coach chairs, boards and chief executives; and, conduct board and executive remuneration reviews. Assisting boards with talent and succession planning for executives and non-executives is a key part of Anne's role and expertise. She has also published research and written comment articles for the national media on a range of organisational issues including talent management, board development, chief executive development and diversity issues. She also chairs and presents at conferences regularly. Anne has a BA (Hons) degree and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She is registered with the British Psychological Society, to use a range of psychometric instruments for assessment and development including the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Hogan, FIRO B, SHL OPQ, Saville Wave Professional Styles and 360-degree feedback. Anne believes in building and maintaining long term partnerships with clients and enjoys playing a role in their success.

Grace Lyne

With more than a decade in human resources, Grace began her HR journey with work experience at EMA, laying a foundation that she's built upon ever since. As a chartered HR professional, she's led recruitment, streamlined onboarding and developed talent, always ensuring compliance with employment law and regulations. Grace's recent focus has been on evolving HR processes to match company growth targets. Her strategic acumen was evident as the Head of HR for an SME, where she developed an HR strategy to support the company's expanded operations from 8 to 14 sites over three years. Adept at collaborating, Grace partners effectively with managers, fostering talent and enhancing business performance. Pursuing continuous development, Grace achieved her Masters in HR Management while managing her demanding roles and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. At ema, Grace's focus is the highly regarded annual Total Reward and Workplace Survey, analysis of market pay & reward, and various key sector research. She also works on the search and interim part of the business. Outside ema, Grace has led initiatives that enhanced employee quality of life through comprehensive onboarding, training and performance review strategies. She has developed training programmes that streamlined staff succession, reduced recruitment costs and compromise agreements. Her efforts have also achieved 90% staff retention by seamlessly integrating a Southwest business into the existing culture. With her robust onboarding process, she improved probationary period completions. Additionally, Grace has mentored managers, significantly enhancing their leadership confidence, as well as developing KPI-driven contracts for more structured performance discussions.

Ian Robertson

Ian is a respected leader in his field, with an exceptional reputation in particular within the housing, charity and not for profit sector. Described by others as someone who ‘really knows his stuff', Ian has held senior director roles in HR both within the public and private sector. He has unrivalled up-to-date knowledge of rewards, bonus and private sector terms and conditions and a passion for driving projects home. His natural creativity and desire to see a job through to completion are just two traits highly valued by our customers. Ian has worked in senior HR and Customer Service positions within the private and public sector for more than 35 years. He has considerable experience of the full breath of HR issues including recruitment, mergers and due diligence work, leading on the HR aspects of transformation / change, modernisation of HR and efficiency activities, designing and implementing performance management schemes, leading strategic HR management reorganisation, restructures and redundancy and salary and reward projects. Ian also has extensive experience of negotiating and working with Trade Unions particularly related to salary and contractual negotiations, reorganisations and Health and Safety. Ian previously worked at Capita PLC within their business transformation division and is also a former member of the Tribal housing team. Ian's experience at Capita saw him work across different employment sectors and he brings this understanding to the ema consultancy offer. Ian is degree qualified, a Chartered Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development, and a certified master practitioner of NLP. He is registered with the British Psychological Society to use a range of psychometrics for assessment and development purposes including Saville WAVE. Ian is also a parish councillor within North Yorkshire and a trustee of a community association.

Liz Johnston

Liz has more than 30 years' HR experience, holding senior HR consultancy and Head of HR roles in a variety of sectors from legal to financial services. She also ran her own HR and coaching business for more than a decade. Liz has extensive experience of managing, developing and delivering strategic and operational HR solutions for clients. This includes performance management, recruitment, employment law, in-depth investigations, organisational change, employee engagement, employee wellbeing, facilitating, coaching and training. She is a qualified coach, holds a Certificate in Counselling Skills and a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management. She is currently studying towards her Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Practitioner Certificate. Her role focuses on ema's core offering of executive search and selection, including NED, organisational reviews and pay. She also provides employee relations support and coaching. Liz is expert at building and maintaining strong trusting partnerships with clients and colleagues, is a strong listener who quickly understands a brief to deliver bespoke solutions, and is an astute and skilled communicator. Most recently Liz was Principal HR Consultant at specialist housing consultancy Altair and Head of HR Business Partnering at James Hay.

Lorna Lee

A skilled HR Professional with over 25 years' experience whose focus is on delivering results., Lorna brings experience in multiple areas of human resources. This includes recruitment and selection, HR management, training and development, employee relations, performance management, reward and benefits. Lorna has spent the last few years specialising in all areas of pay & reward, a highly skilled qualitative and quantitative data analyst she has worked with numerous organisations in developing tailored reward solutions. She provides data and research activities to support the delivery of key projects for our clients including the design and production of surveys (such as the ema Total Reward Survey) along with organisation wide benchmarking services including Executive and Non-Executive Director remuneration reporting. Prior to working with ema Lorna worked for a national HR and executive selection consultancy and is able to use her wide range of skills to provide the ultimate in customer service. Her practical and engaging style has enabled Lorna to develop excellent relationships with clients and to build on her varied experience. Being passionate and committed to her own continuous professional development Lorna is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and is qualified to deliver occupational psychometric testing. For the past eight years Lorna has held the role of voluntary secretary of the Birmingham City Centre Neighbourhood Forum. Lorna is most passionate about finding high-end solutions by establishing a collaborative working environment to meet the needs of our clients and provide the ultimate in customer service.

Nina Barrier

Prior to working with EMA Nina worked for a national HR and Executive Selection consultancy and ran her own training practice. As Consultancy Manager, Nina's key role is the management and organisation of executive search and selection, HR and Board Development. She is first point of contact at ema consultancy and always builds and maintains strong relationships with clients. She uses her wide range of skills to provide the ultimate in customer service, supporting clients, candidates and partners to have a great experience with us.

Pauline Drissell

Pauline draws on many years of management experience, with the last 20 years of her career in consultancy. She has led a wide range of consultancy assignments in the public, private and not for profit sector, latterly with emphasis on the housing sector. Her areas of expertise include board and executive assessment and selection, coaching, leadership development, career management and outplacement. Her work with boards encompasses NED recruitment, board appraisal and skills audits. She was a trustee of a national charity for seven years and is comfortable operating at board and executive level. She has a keen nose for identifying sound leadership potential, is an incisive interviewer, with a pleasant but probing style and readily tackles the difficult questions, which others might be disinclined to ask. Particularly valued by clients is her ease with a range of personality questionnaires. Her analysis of psychometric reports is insightful, and she has the ability to read between the lines. She has a particular flair for providing feedback to both recruitment panels and candidates and this frequently receives high praise. An exceptional coach, Pauline prides herself on providing a creative mind, support and challenge to her many clients in specialist/technical and generalist senior roles over the years. Wendy Morris

Wendy provides research services for ema consultancy and in particular manages our extensive remuneration database and identifies high calibre candidates for our non- executive and executive search. With more than 20 years administration and secretarial experience, the majority of which were within human resources, Wendy's previous experience along with her methodical and thorough approach provides clients with high level research services. Wendy has worked across various sectors, including the private and public sector. She has worked for large multi-national businesses, along with small new start-up businesses where she has been responsible for putting structures and procedures in place and setting up HR systems.

Yvonne Walsh

Yvonne has more than 25 years' experience within HR. She has held a number of management roles up to Director level within a range of organisations including the not for profit sector, higher and further education, local government and the health service. Yvonne has spent the last five years in a strategic business partnering role in a prestigious London University before returning to consultancy. Her extensive experience includes managing a wide spectrum of HR activities including strategy development, change management, employee relations, recruitment and selection, leadership development, coaching and mentoring. She has a strong commitment to equality and inclusion and has played a pivotal role in assisting several of her former employers gain organisation wide accreditations. Yvonne is also an experienced workplace mediator and has successfully completed several assignments concerning conflict resolution in the workplace. Additionally, she is qualifying in using psychometric instruments and has been involved in a number of selection assessment centres. Yvonne is qualified to Masters' Level and is an accredited workplace mediator. She holds two ongoing public office and regulatory roles in both legal and quasi-legal settings.
