Dougal Powrie

Job Titles:
  • Non - Executive Director
Dougal has been involved in tax since 1973 when he joined HMRC as a direct entrant Inspector of Taxes. He qualified as a fully trained Inspector and, although it is many years since he left HMRC, he still finds the experience valuable in understanding HMRC's approach to matters and, normally, in forming good relationships with them in negotiations. Having completed his HMRC training, he then joined what is now KPMG to train as a chartered accountant in 1979 and duly qualified 3 years later. In 1985 he became a partner in KPMG and had 13 years as senior tax partner in KPMG's Leicester office where, in between dealing with multi-national and quoted clients, he learned a great deal about entrepreneurs, their companies and their needs. In April 1998 he set up his own practice to assist local entrepreneurs and provide high quality advice to them. He has worked in that area ever since with a growing specialisation in Inheritance Tax but still with a broad general portfolio of corporate and personal tax matters. Although now enjoying semi-retirement, one of his specialist areas remains helping to unravel older tax-schemes that were set up in the noughties and are now deemed by HMRC as being unlikely to work. The work he has done in that area often involves detailed negotiations with HMRC but there are other options available.

Mark originally started working with Kibworth Tax Services Limited in 2013 and now spends most of his professional time supporting private clients and business owners around the issues they face regarding estate planning and Inheritance Tax. Mark holds a particular interest in supporting landlords and has a good understanding of the issues they face when it comes to estate planning. Working with the team, we have a number of effective solutions to alleviate these issues giving our clients far-reaching benefits. Outside of work Mark enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 daughters and whenever possible cooking a BBQ.
