Dr Patrick Heck completed his undergraduate medical training at Gonville and Caius College in the University of Cambridge before undertaking his clinical studies at Brasenose College, University of Oxford, qualifying in 2000. Thereafter, he pursued his training in General Medicine and Cardiology in Oxford and then Cambridge, at Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke's Hospital. After being awarded a British Heart Foundation grant Dr Heck completed a period of research and was awarded the Doctor of Medicine from Oxford University in 2010. He secured a Clinical Fellowship in Melbourne, Australia, under Professor Kalman, a world expert in the management of cardiac arrhythmias from 2010-2011. During this time he specialised in complex 3-D electro-anatomical mapping of arrhythmias and the ablation of Atrial Fibrillation. Dr Heck was appointed as a Consultant at Royal Papworth Hospital in 2012. He also has a regular NHS satellite clinic in Bedford General Hospital. In his current role, he is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of cardiac arrhythmia. He regularly undertakes the insertion of pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation therapy and all aspects of ablation therapy including the treatment of supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Dr Heck consults at Nuffield Health Cambridge and Royal Papworth Hospitals where he is able to see both self-funding patients and those insured with the major health insurance providers. In 2016, along with his colleague Dr Simon Fynn, Dr Heck set up the invasive cardiology service at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital and is now able to perform invasive cardiac procedures, such as ablation and device implants, at both Nuffield Health Cambridge and Royal Papworth Hospitals.
