Abigail Czinege

As our director of operations, Abby focuses on enhancing our internal & external client experience, establishing internal processes, developing marketing strategy, and researching business opportunities. She was previously based in NYC with JPMorgan as an exchange-traded fund (ETF) specialist where she focused on distribution strategy, sales, and relationship management. Abby is a volunteer coach for Girl's on the Run-Kansas City which is an after school program to help young girls strengthen their bodies and minds. She is also on the board of directors for The Bacchus Foundation, the oldest philanthropic, young professional's organization in Kansas City. Their mission is to connect young professionals, while raising funds for Kansas City charities. Abby is also a part-time gymnastics coach at Eagles Gymnastics. Abby graduated from Villanova University with a bachelor's in Economics and minor in Chinese Studies. While at Villanova was a pole vaulter and team captain of the varsity track & field team. In her free time, Abby enjoys all outdoor activities, cooking, and hanging out with friends and family.

Ben Hagenkord

As our account executive, Ben focuses on increasing and managing client relationships across our factoring channel. He also assists in managing our factoring and bridge finance portfolios by collecting and analyzing client financials. Prior to Kompass Funding, Ben worked at CommunityAmerica Credit Union as a mortgage analyst intern. Additionally, he has experience working for Ferguson Enterprises as a pricing coordinator and data analyst intern. Ben is a graduate from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in both Finance and Accounting. While at Kansas State University, Ben was a member of the student finance association. In his free time, you can find Ben playing golf, hanging with his friends/family, and watching the Chiefs.

Bill Marshall - CIO

Job Titles:
  • CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER
Bill brings nearly 30 years of I.T. experience to the Kompass Funding team. He has worked with companies both large and small over his career in a variety of capacities from implementing best practice security measures to software development, search engine optimization (SEO), and more. As we continue down a path where I.T. becomes a larger part of the home service business model, Bill brings the experience and resources to keep our company competitive and secure.

Brett Carmical - CHRO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Human Resources Officer
Prior to working with Kompass Funding, Brett spent the last 10 years of his career managing HR services for companies in the transportation and staffing industries. Brett was head of HR for 7 years at a transportation company, where he assisted the group through a large expansion and subsequent merger. Through that experience, Brett learned a great deal about transitioning teams through a change in ownership, which he continues to use today in his role with Kompass Funding.

Connor Heying

Connor Heying received his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree from the University of Kansas. Prior to joining the Kompass Funding team Connor worked as a CPA for a Big 4 public accounting firm.

Courtney Conrad - Chief Legal Officer

Courtney Conrad brings Kompass Funding nearly 20 years of legal experience, most recently, as a partner at Lathrop GPM, LLP. Courtney earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas and her juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Don Schmidt - CMO

Before coming on board with Kompass Funding, Don spent nearly 30 years as Partner at a marketing firm in Kansas City. He worked with clients ranging from small startups to Fortune 100 companies, as well as several major league sport organizations within the NHL and MLB. Don brings a tremendous amount of value to the team and can help companies gain the competitive advantage they need to achieve the next level of growth.

Eric Braun

Eric Braun is a Senior Investment Analyst with Kompass Funding. Eric brings many years of accounting and finance experience to Kompass Funding. He most recently spent the past four plus years at a large real estate developer in various accounting and finance roles, including financial responsibilities for several 3PL entities under their corporate umbrella. Prior to that time, Eric worked in public accounting with a Big 4 firm for several years. He received his undergraduate degree from Kansas State University and an actively licensed CPA.

John Minnis - CEO

As CEO of KKF, Mr. Minnis provides leadership and strategic direction to meet the vision of the company. His leadership spans all aspects of the company to include business development, underwriting, client relationship, finance, and marketing. Mr. Minnis comes from a strong business background which includes both Fortune 500 and privately held companies. His diversified experience included business development, sales management and general management, finance, and banking. Over his career he has experience in the industries of manufacturing, retail, service, legal, insurance as well as finance and banking. Growing up in St. Joseph, MO and currently residing in the Kansas City metro area, Mr. Minnis has held numerous board and leadership positions throughout the community, including Catholic Charities, Catholic Education Foundation and Bishop Ward Mentoring program, Reach Out and Read Kansas City, Healthy KC, St. Benedict's Abbey, Ascension Finance Council, the Knights of Columbus and coaches multiple youth football and baseball teams. Mr. Minnis was selected as a NextGen Leaders by the Kansas City Business Journal and is a graduate from the Centurion Leadership Program through the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. He is also author of Journey to Leadership, Timeless Lessons for Today's Leaders published in 2015. Mr. Minnis attended Benedictine College and is a graduate of Missouri Western University with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing. Mr. Minnis lives in Overland Park with his wife Angie and their four children; Jack, Drew, Maggie and Michael.

Katherine Lane

Katherine is an Account Executive focusing on initiating, developing and managing client relationships through email and call campaigns. She also organizes and manages client documentation across our factoring and SQP channels. Before joining the Kompass Funding Team, Katherine worked as a Consultant and Research Intern at Nomos LLC. She worked in the endorsement and sponsorship department for international athletes, as well as building relationships with college coaches to find the best fit for each athlete to continue their athletic careers in the US. Katherine is a graduate from Saint Louis University where she received her Bachelors in Sports Business and Marketing as well as an MBA. While at SLU, Katherine was a four-year centerfielder for the Billiken Softball team and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society. In her free time, Katherine enjoys playing various sports, coaching, and being around her friends and family.

Matt Friel

As our Account Executive, Matt focuses on increasing and managing client relationships across our invoice funding and supplier quickpay channels. He also assists in the collecting and analyzing client documentation and financials. Prior to Kompass Funding, Matt worked at UCB as a Healthcare System Implementation Intern. Additionally, he has experience working as a Legal Intern for Daniel Law Office. Matt graduated from The University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in economics. While at Illinois, Matt held multiple leadership roles including president of his leadership development fraternity. Matt was also a member of IlliniThon, an organization that raises money for families with children being treated at St. John's Children's Hospital. In his free time, Matt enjoys skiing, golfing, and dominating his fantasy football leagues.

Sarah Schlitz - CFO

Prior to joining Kompass Funding, Sarah was a tax partner at a public accounting firm in Kansas City. She has served as a business advisor to her clients in the areas of accounting, tax management, and consulting in a variety of industries for more than 15 years. Sarah is a CPA and brings a great deal of finance and accounting experience to the team.

Tom Joerger - COO

Tom Joerger is a Division Manager for Kompass Funding. He has over 10 years of experience in software implementation and support, print and digital marketing, project management, consulting, process improvement, and international business. Most of his experience comes from within the FinTech and Healthcare IT industries. Tom focuses on division strategy, marketing, business development, process improvement, client and vendor implementation, and partnerships. Tom is a certified Project Management Professional and member of the Project Management Institute KC chapter. He is a graduate of Benedictine College with a degree in business administration with an emphasis in management. He also received his MBA from Benedictine College. Tom is originally from Minnesota and enjoys any opportunity to head North. When he cannot get up North, he enjoys house projects, golfing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Tom resides in Overland Park, Kansas with his wife and four children.

Will Downey

Job Titles:
  • OPERATIONS ANALYST
Will is our Operations Analyst. In his role, he supports our sales and executive leadership teams in the day-to-day operations by collecting and analyzing client data and financials, onboarding new clients, and managing our existing client portfolio. Before joining the Kompass Funding, Will worked as a Logistics Coordinator for a large 3PL. He also had a long upbringing in the family business, Broski Fence, providing a wide array of services in that time. Will graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Financial Services along with a certificate in Professional Strategic Selling. Outside of work, Will loves everything to do with the Kansas City Royals, Golf, Jeopardy!, and his family and friends.
