PAULO SICA

I was born and raised in São Paulo - Brazil, where I still live and work. I had my first guided contact with materials and techniques in the workshops of the faculty of industrial design, but my development within contemporary art is a personal process... The focus of my work is the intrinsic dialect of matter: the natural and the artificial, the functional and the aesthetic, the living and the inanimate, the ritual, the physiological and the sacred. In my research, I seek to dissect and reduce the complexity of existence into indivisible particles of meaning, recombining them into my own narrative... In my process, I combine materials from multiple sources such as wood, ceramics, concrete, plaster, paper, copper, ropes, threads, fabrics, bones, horns, seeds, prefabricated objects, and transform them by means of modelling, depositing, burning, curing, carving, woodworking and 3D projecting.
