«The war started when I was in school. I went home but I couldn't find my parents. When I fled, I only found two of my brothers. We wanted to cross by pirogue to Ndu (village in DRC), but we had no money. Everyone could cross with money but we stayed on the shore without being able to leave in the pirogue, my brothers and I cried a lot. A group of people finally helped us, out of pity, and we left with them. We spent two nights outside, we had no food, no drink, nothing. I would like my father to be found so, that I can go home, but if he is not found, I prefer to stay here in Congo. I now live in the centre with the other children. I now go to school here. I have friends, but sometimes the older ones call us orphans and they beat us. They say we have no parents; they threaten us.
