Ahmed M. Afifi

Ahmed M. Afifi, MD, joined the Plastic Surgery faculty at the University of Wisconsin (Madison, Wisconsin) in 2011. His practice at the University of Wisconsin currently includes migraine surgery, cosmetic surgery and breast reconstruction. After graduating from medical school in 1995, Dr. Afifi trained at the Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, Ohio) the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, New Mexico) the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and Cairo University (Cairo, Egypt). Following his general and plastic surgery residency, he completed three subspecialty fellowships in aesthetic and breast surgery, hand and microsurgery and craniofacial surgery. He also completed a clinical research fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic and is also a Professor of Plastic Surgery at Cairo University. He has over 50 publications and book chapters. He is currently funded by the Plastic Surgery Foundation for his research involving outcomes of migraine surgery.

Ali Totonchi

Ali Totonchi, MD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery (Plastic Surgery Division) at Case Western Reserve University, He completed his plastic surgery residency in University Hospitals Case Medical Center and then continued fellowships in facial cosmetic and pediatric craniofacial surgeries at the same institution. Dr. Totonchi joined MetroHealth Medical Center in 2010 where he serves as site Director of Plastic Surgery Residency at MetroHealth Hospital, he is also associate director of the plastic surgery residency program, and Medical Director of the multidisciplinary Craniofacial Deformity Clinic (CFD). Dr. Totonchi uses an innovative technique that was introduced by Dr. Guyuron, with whom he has been trained and involved in some of the migraine surgery research. Dr. Totonchi gives lectures regarding migraine surgery nationally and internationally. He is active academically with research and education of residents and medical students. He is also an active member of multiple international, national, regional and local committees. Andres Rivadeneira

Andres Rivadeneira graduated as a medical doctor from the International University of Ecuador and specialized in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil. Afterwards, he completed his residency at the Luis Vernaza Hospital. Currently, he works in the plastic surgery area at the Roberto Gilbert Children's Hospital and attends private consultation in the plastic and neuroplastic part. In addition, he is a professor of plastic surgery at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil. While doing a fellowship in plastic surgery with Dr. Lee Dellon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, he became interested in neuroplastic surgery. He went on to specialize in the branch at the Dellon Institute for Peripheral Nerve and Plastic Surgery, with an emphasis on migraine surgery, starting the program in 2014. He is a regional pioneer of migraine surgery, having treated hundreds of patients with chronic refractory migraine. He has also co-authored the book "Pain Solutions", in Spanish, among other academic articles. In addition, he has received several awards for his studies in the field of neuroplastics. He is an active member of several societies, including the American Society of Plastic Surgery, Migraine Surgery Society, Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic Surgery, Association of Extremity Nerve Surgeons, and the Ecuadorian Society of Plastic Surgery. At present, he is actively involved in expanding migraine surgery in South America.

Jeffrey E. Janis - President

Jeffrey E. Janis, MD, FACS, is full-time faculty as a Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He is also Chief of Plastic Surgery at University Hospital and holds adjunct appointments as a Professor of Neurosurgery, Neurology and Surgery. Education Dr. Janis completed his undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated magna cum laude from the Olin School of Business with Honors in Management and Marketing. He was also awarded membership into Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. He was also the recipient of the William D. Holden Award in Surgery, given to the most outstanding student going into a surgical career. He completed his integrated plastic surgery residency at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, receiving two awards for Outstanding Accomplishment in Surgical Education, the Excellence in Teaching Award as well as Best Research Paper at the 2003 National Senior Resident's Conference. He joined the faculty in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center where he remained from 2003-2013, appointed to the level of Associate Professor and Program Director for the largest plastic surgery residency training program in the country, and also served as Co-Director of the Wound Healing Fellowship at the same location. Furthermore, he served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Parkland Health and Hospital System from 2006-2013. During his tenure at UTSW, he was awarded Clinician of the Year, Distinguished Physician of the Year, an Outstanding Leadership Award and twice awarded Special Achievement Awards for Outstanding Contributions and Dedication to Advances in Plastic Surgery Resident Education as well as twice awarded Teacher of the Year. He was inducted into the prestigious Southwest Academy of Teachers as well as named "Distinguished Teaching Professor" by the University of Texas Academy of Health Sciences Education.

Marcelo Hochman

Marcelo Hochman, MD is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is recognized as a regional expert in the comprehensive treatment of migraines and congenital vascular anomalies. Dr. Hochman did his residency in Head/Neck Surgery at Stanford Medical Center and 2 subsequent fellowships, one in adult and the other in pediatric facial surgery at Washington University in St Louis and Arkansas Children's Hospital respectively. He was the Director of Facial Plastic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina for 10 years and then opened his private practices, The Facial Surgery Center, The Migraine Treatment Center and The Hemangioma & Malformation Treatment Center. He is a frequent contributor to the medical literature and has been recognized continuously by his peers in the Best Doctors in America list since 1990. Dr. Hochman was honored with The Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian award and the Community Service Award of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery both his charitable work. His interest in the field of migraine relief comes from his personal experience with family members who suffer from chronic migraines.

Robert Hagan

Robert Hagan, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon with additional sub-specialty, fellowship training in craniofacial surgery as well as Hand & Microsurgery. This breadth of training has helped him develop a comprehensive practice focusing on peripheral nerve surgery. In particular, his craniofacial training and peripheral nerve training has set a foundational understanding of nerves and anatomy within the head and neck region. This has translated to an ability to diagnose and treat chronic headaches and migraines triggered by nerve compressions, neuralgias or neuromas. Dr. Hagan has published both anatomic and clinical studies that have advanced the field of headache surgery. He has been invited to speak on this topic at nationally and internationally. He is considered by his peers as a contributing leader in the field headache and migraine surgery who continues to advance the techniques and improve the outcomes.

Ziv M. Peled

Ziv M. Peled, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon trained to perform the full spectrum of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgical procedures. He completed his medical school training at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where he earned honors in multiple surgical disciplines. He subsequently completed four years of rigorous general surgical training at the University of Connecticut during which he also completed an additional two-year, post-doctoral Basic Science Research Fellowship at Stanford University under the tutelage of Dr. Michael T. Longaker, a pioneer in the field of scarless wound healing. During that time, Dr. Peled not only helped establish Dr. Longaker's laboratory at Stanford, but was also awarded a 5-year NIH grant for his work in keloid biology and scarless wound repair. Ziv then completed a prestigious and highly sought-after plastic surgical residency at Harvard University. While there, he was awarded an "Excellence in Teaching" award from the Harvard medical students. Dr. Peled continued to hone his specialty skills with an additional year of training in peripheral nerve surgery at the Dellon Institute for Peripheral Nerve and Plastic Surgery. He is Board-Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which means that he graduated from an accredited medical school, completed numerous years of residency training, and successfully passed a series of comprehensive written and oral examinations. The American Board of Plastic Surgery is one of only a select few specialty boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) and is the only ABMS board which certifies candidates in the specialty of plastic surgery of the entire body. Dr. Peled is also a member of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons. In addition to his cosmetic and reconstructive work, Dr. Peled helped to found a peripheral nerve surgery institute here in San Francisco. In that institute, he served as Director and Chief Plastic & Peripheral Nerve Surgeon. His specific training enables him to perform a unique set of surgical procedures designed specifically to restore sensation and minimize/eliminate pain in patients suffering from chronic headaches/migraines as well as neuropathy due to diabetes, exposure to chemotherapy and thyroid disorders. He has also treated many patients with various forms of nerve trauma as well as many other types of nerve disorders. Dr. Peled has authored and co-authored over 40 manuscripts and book chapters on all aspects of plastic surgery, has presented his work and taught other surgeons at numerous national and international meetings. He has performed several hundred peripheral nerve procedures of various kinds. Ziv is an Active Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve. This latter honor recognizes and highlights Dr. Peled's breadth of work with peripheral nerve patients suffering from migraines and diabetes as well as his published work on peripheral nerve surgery. Dr. Peled also reviews manuscripts for publication for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the world's most respected and read plastic surgery journal and its open access counterpart, PRS-Global Open, where he also serves as an Assistant Editor. He has volunteered for the International Rescue Committee and the American Diabetes Association and has traveled to South America to provide reconstructive surgery to underprivileged children. In his spare time, he actively competes in both Half-Ironman and Ironman-distance triathlons
