Ben Dodd - Chairman

I am a husband, a father to two sons, a grandfather to two grandchildren. I worked in residential construction for nearly forty years and as a remodeling contractor for nearly thirty of those years. I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, gardening, making pottery and my bonsai. I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Nashville, Rebuild Together as well as NTFS.

Bev Herbert

Job Titles:

Bev worked for 35 years in the electrical / energy management industry in positions ranging from design engineer, product marketing, and most recently International Sales Operations for Schneider Electric. He retired in 2020. Bev has lived in Nashville since 1998 and been active with local non-profit organizations like NTFS, Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Nashville and Cumberland River Compact by organizing company employee volunteer opportunities for Schneider Electric.

Bob Johnson

After receiving a Regular Army Commission from college in 1973, Bob spent 3 years as an infantry officer with the 4th Infantry division. Following active duty, Bob worked 10 years for Cutters Exchange in the Nashville, Los Angeles and Chicago offices. From there he joined the Southwestern Family of Companies, where he spent most of his 25 years with the Favorite Recipes Press division, retiring in 2011. He began volunteering with Nashville Tools for Schools soon thereafter. He joined the Board (for the first time) in 2012 for a 6 year stint, and is now back hoping to get it right this time. His other volunteer involvements include Habitat for Humanity, Room in the Inn and The Green Hills YMCA.

Denise Sesler

Denise Sesler is a 20+ year resident of Nashville and she has served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of Nashville Tools for Schools since 2013. Denise is a paralegal by profession, having been employed at both the Davidson County Juvenile Court and at the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz. She and her husband Mart are parents to a son and daughter, both of whom attended Metro Nashville Public Schools. Denise has volunteered with organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the Nashville Food Project, and she previously served on the Board of Trustees for the Disciples Divinity House at Vanderbilt University. Denise was actively involved as a parent volunteer at the Metro schools attended by her children, and she also served on the Executive Boards for the Parent/Teacher/Student Organizations at Eakin Elementary and West End Middle School. NTFS Board Member since 2013.

Harry Baird

Harry Baird was one of the two first volunteers for NTFS when it started in 2006. Harry retired from Genesco and had overseen the installation and opening for all of Genesco's outlets. He has been a football and basketball referee for MNPS and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity on more builds than anyone can remember and becoming a Supervisor on Site.

Jean Lauzon

Jean Lauzon previously served as a board member and treasurer. At the end of his term on the board, he continued serving NTFS as the bookkeeper and grant writer.

Jim Hinson

Jim is a retired pulmonologist who has been volunteering with NTFS since 2019.

John Stauffer - Treasurer

Born and raised in Memphis, John is a Native Tennessean. His family background is in ministry. John's family has four generations of ministers in the Christian Church - Disciples of Christ. He completed his undergraduate degree at Texas Christian University, graduating Cum Laude with a BBA in Finance. In his professional career, John is a partner and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) at Quinn Stauffer Financial. He works with individuals to help them manage their personal finances and invest for their future. John has been involved with Nashville Tools for Schools since its founding and previously served as the Board Chair as well as treasurer. He loves working with an organization that combines hands-on projects in a way that benefits students and their education. John and his wife, Emilie, live in the Glendale neighborhood with their daughters Meredith and Melanie along with their two yellow labs, London and Boone. John serves as an elder of Woodmont Christian Church and is involved in many other church programs. He previously served as a board member and chair of the endowment committee, and chair of the elders. John is also involved in the community by providing lunch to Room in the Inn several times a year.

Nate Miley

Nate Miley is the proud principal and parent at Crieve Hall Elementary on the south side of Nashville. When not serving on the board or at school, Nate enjoys spending time with his four daughters and doing carpentry projects for his home or for others. He is a Nashville transplant originally from IN who loves the diversity of our city, the southern winters, and the strong community feel and work that Nashville Tools for Schools provides the teachers and students of MNPS.

Robert Stack

Rob Stack is a Nashville native and has always enjoyed working with his hands. Rob photographed professionally for 20 years before turned to teaching full time. Rob believes that community programs, like Nashville Tools for Schools, help to create improved schools, increased understanding, and tighter community bonds. When those things happen, Nashville wins. Rob went to Overbook School, MBA, Auburn U., Boston College, Pratt Institute, Trevecca and a few other places in the pursuit of knowledge. He currently teaches computer science at Meigs Academic Magnet Middle School.

Stephen H. McHugh

Steve gained his Bachelor of Science degree from Peabody College/Vanderbilt University in 1958. Now retired, his career included founding SHM Consulting and working in the healthcare, insurance, finance and economic fields as a CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) , CFC (Chartered Financial Consultant), and FLMI (Fellow/Life Management Institute). He serves on the following boards: Faith Family Medical Clinic, Tennessee Association of Health Underwriters, Middle Tennessee Healthcare Executives Association, Bravo Creative Arts Center, and Woodmont Christian Church. Steve is also actively involved in the Exchange Club of Nashville and Hillwood Country Club. Steve was NTFS' first volunteer back in 2006 and a founding Board Member.

Steve Lainhart

Steve has lived in Nashville since 1970, he attended Vanderbilt University and he has a chemical engineering degree. Steve has worked extensively with Habitat for Humanity. He has worked for over 30 years at Thompson Machinery, a local Caterpillar dealer.
