Aishath Ahmed

Aishath graduated from the University of Reading in 2017 and following her degree, qualified and practiced as a Criminal Prosecutor in the Maldives for three years. Aishath is an experienced advocate in the Magistrate Courts, Superior Courts and the High Court of the Maldives. Wanting to branch out, Aishath returned to education and completed her Master's degree in Law at University College London in 2021. Currently, she is studying part-time on the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, Liverpool. Aishath joined MSB in November 2022 as a Paralegal in the Social Housing Team, predominantly working on Housing Management, Building Safety and Decarbonisation. Aishath assisted with drafting pleadings and evidence and enjoyed litigation. She started her Training Contract with MSB in September 2023. Aishath is friendly and approachable and is looking forward to making meaningful connections while progressing at MSB.

Andrew Fairman

Andrew qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and has been practising in the civil court arena ever since. Prior to joining msb, Andrew had work experience in a variety of areas, with a wealth of experience giving him a strong understanding foundation as a civil litigator. With a strong background and years of experience in civil litigation Andrew has honed his skills as an advocate in a wide variety of hearings, and is adept at reacting to ever changing live litigated matters to get a client the desired outcome. Andrew joined the team at msb to focus on solely on Housing Law with his work now covering all areas of housing and associated litigation that arises within this field. Since joining msb Andrew has been able to quickly establish himself in this field. Andrew regularly receives instructions on matters relating to ASB, housing management, possession proceedings, general advises and is a specialist in achieving outcomes relating to all of areas of compliance within the Social Housing sector. Andrew has specifically setup and now heads MSB's dedicated team leading on all issues relating to Compliance, Building Safety and Decarbonisation for social housing providers. In addition, Andrew is also the lead for our social housing team from our Manchester office. Andrew was a Recommended Lawyer in the Legal 500 in 2022, highlighting his rise in the social housing field since joining msb. Andrew regularly features on webinars and podcasts on a variety of housing topics, he has led sessions at CIH events and delivered numerous in person training to his client base. Andrew Moore

Andy joined MSB in 2019 and brings with him 10 years of housing experience, having represented a range of clients from the largest RPs in the country, to individual property landlords. His knowledge and experience has seen him act as a key advisor on a change of tenure for a £100 million + PFI project, in addition to having developed a process for unauthorised sub-letting that has been adopted by multiple RPs. Andy is able to advise and represent clients on legal and practical aspects of leasehold and homeownership issues, tenancy management, tackling anti-social behaviour and disrepair. His specialisms include leasehold and land disputes which have included Access Injunctions, Enforcement of Covenants, Dilapidations and Service Charge and Estate Recovery, Boundary Disputes and Adverse Possession. Andy has a genuine passion for housing matters and enjoys working closely with clients to really understand their organisation and culture in order to represent them to a standard of excellence.

Brad Armstrong

Brad acts for property developers and social housing providers on all aspects of residential and commercial development. He advises his clients across a full spectrum of development matters from site acquisition and assembly, through to the disposal of residential apartments, commercial and leisure units. Having grown up locally, Brad continues to live in Merseyside and is proud to have acted for clients that are responsible for delivering some of the largest residential regeneration schemes in the North West, including prestigious developments in Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds. Brad also acts for clients in the healthcare sector on the acquisition and disposal of their business and property interests, in addition to acting for property investors and clients in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors, assisting them with the management of their property portfolios.

Corale Holmes

Corale is a Trainee Solicitor in our Commercial Property department and focuses on secured finance and plots. Corale began her journey at MSB back in 2014, when she completed a vacation scheme in the Family Law department. She graduated from Swansea University with a 1st Class Law Degree and attained the highest overall degree percentage in her year group, which is one of Corale's proudest achievements. She then went on to study the Legal Practice Course and moved from Swansea to Liverpool to join our Family Team as a Paralegal. Corale primarily dealt with legal aid matters and enjoyed promoting the access to justice she feels everyone deserves. Corale has always been passionate about all family aspects of the law and feels lucky to have had such a vast amount of client contact and interaction, which she says for her, has been truly priceless. Corale is now undergoing her training contract and looks forward to qualifying in Summer 2024.

Darren Barwick

Darren specialises in property, a natural choice for someone who cares about the built environment and how people interact with it. He has a wealth of experience in residential development, where he has advised a number of large developers and house builders from the start of his career to the present day. He acts on site acquisition and assembly, development agreements, overage agreements and advises on sales documentation and the disposal of units. Darren believes that being commercially aware and pragmatic is essential for the effective delivery of development, whether large or small. A proud Liverpudlian, he is privileged to have been involved in developments that have helped regenerate the city. Darren has acted for bridging finance companies in secured lending and development finance transactions for a number of years, which has given him a comprehensive understanding of the market and enables him to structure transactions and advise on documentation that fully protects his clients, whilst still getting the deal done on time. He also acts for institutional lenders and advises borrowers on commercial finance matters. Darren believes that assisting developers to access capital for building projects is crucial for regeneration. He is experienced in landlord and tenant matters acting for both landlord and tenants in commercial lease transactions and leasehold management, also advising on short term tenancies and licenses. In addition, he acts for property investors (both individuals and companies) in the acquisition, disposal and letting of property. He also advises on business sales and acquisitions.

David Tarttelin

David began his career at MSB as a Paralegal in September 2016, before commencing his training contract in September 2018 and qualifying as a Solicitor in November 2020. He graduated with a 2:1 in Law from the University of Liverpool in 2016 and completed his LPC Qualification at Liverpool John Moores University in June 2019. David is based in the Civil and Commercial Litigation department where his work covers a wide remit of areas such as secured lending disputes, commercial company disputes (including shareholder disputes, breach of contract and insurance claims), and commercial drafting for SMEs and large companies. Additionally, David regularly receives instructions from secured lenders and can advise in relation to recovery proceedings in relation to development finance, asset finance and residential property. David also has much experience in working closely with LPA Receivers. David particularly enjoys this area due to the strong relationship that can be developed with the client and the competitive edge litigation can have. David prides himself on being approachable and understanding with clients, ensuring he understands their aims clearly from the outset. David is also proud to represent MSB on the committee of the Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society as Vice Chair.

Dr Emma Palmer

Emma succeeded Managing Partner, Emma Carey as Head of Family in 2018 and has been a Partner of the firm since 2017. Emma specialises in international family matters and complex children proceedings representing parents, children and wider family members. She is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, a Resolution accredited specialist in: child abduction, forced marriage & honour based abuse and domestic abuse and a member of The Law Society's Children Panel. Emma is instructed by the Official Solicitor to act for parents abroad in child abduction cases. Emma is instructed by clients all over the world for High Court matters. She has provided training to other family lawyers, CAFCASS and charitable organisations on topics including complex care proceedings, child abduction, wardship, international divorce, forced marriage and honour-based abuse. Emma joined MSB right after university and has steadily risen through the ranks, starting as a Trainee, eventually becoming a Partner and now Managing Partner. This extensive experience gives her a comprehensive understanding of the firm's operations. Having launched and headed the Family department since 2000, Emma is a practicing solicitor. As a lawyer, Emma is deeply committed to access to justice, and as a businesswoman, she is committed to social and economic justice for all. Emma's excellence in her field is recognised by Chambers and Partners and is a leading individual in the Legal500 directory, where she is highly regarded for her specialised experience in domestic abuse cases. Beyond her professional achievements, Emma actively participates in various charitable and community initiatives. George Chai

George is a trainee solicitor currently working in the MSB's Commercial Property team. George originally joined the firm as a Paralegal within MSB's Social Housing department in June 2021 and successfully obtained a Training Contract with MSB in April 2022. George graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a 1st Class Law Degree in 2020 and then graduated from the Legal Practice Course at Liverpool John Moores University obtaining a Distinction. Whilst working within the Social Housing team George assisted with a wide range of matters in Social Housing, working on matters concerning Housing management, Possession proceedings and Anti-Social Behaviour cases. George gained experience of drafting evidence and pleadings, helping to prepare cases for Court and attending Court hearings. George joined MSB's commercial property team in August 2022 initially working within the plot sales team, representing a high-profile property developer based across the Northwest. George also helps by overseeing several large-scale developments. Working within the Plot Sales team has given George valuable insight into completing large scale property transactions. George prides himself on his friendly and approachable nature, which assists him in building great rapport with clients of the firm. He is passionate about helping current law students with their future careers and is keen to encourage the firm's participation in career days with local universities and schools.

Hayley Catherall

Hayley has been a partner at MSB since March 2017 and has a wealth of experience, having worked in family law since the age of 19. She is an Accredited Resolution Specialist in Domestic Abuse and is one of only three Accredited Resolution Specialists in the Merseyside Region for Co-habitation. Hayley qualified through CILEX in June 2001 and passionately champions alternative routes into the law, serving as a mentor to apprentices in the firm. Hayley deals with divorce, financial matters, co-habitation and children matters including complex issues involving social services. She can provide detailed advice in the preparation of co-habitation agreements in addition to prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Hayley is a Legal 500 recommended lawyer. She has acute attention to detail and works diligently on her client's behalf to achieve a successful outcome.

Holly Knowles

Holly is a Trainee Solicitor within the Family team. Holly graduated with a first-class Law degree from the University of Liverpool in 2020. During her studies Holly gained pro bono experience at the Liverpool Law Clinic. Her team won the national Attorney General Award for Best New Pro Bono Project in 2018/19 and individually she won the University of Liverpool Law Clinic Prize for best contribution in 2019/20. Holly joined the Family team at MSB in 2020. Holly currently works on complex international children matters and has experience in international child abduction, serious domestic abuse including honour-based abuse, and forced marriage. Holly has also worked with the private family team on divorce and financial matters, including high net worth cases, and the residential conveyancing team. Holly studies part-time on the Legal Practice Course at Liverpool John Moores University alongside her training contract and is due to qualify as a solicitor in September 2024. Holly is a proud and active member of the MSB LGBT+ Committee and has driven the adoption of more gender inclusive language at the firm. Outside of work, Holly has raised money with MSB for the Liverpool Women's Hospital Neo-Natal Unit and Alder Hey Children's Charity.

Jack Medlicott

Jack has over 10 years experience dealing with all aspects of commercial property and secured lending. Jack acts for a broad range of clients from individuals embarking upon their first business venture to established institutional developers, banks and finance providers, his experience covers all the aspects of commercial, residential and development work in both the regulated and unregulated mortgage sectors. Jessica Cowley

Jess joined MSB as a Paralegal within the Family Department in May 2022. Jess graduated from the University of Liverpool with a First Class Honours in LLB Law in 2018 and has secured a Training Contact with MSB, which is due to commence in January 2024 alongside studying the Legal Practice Course. As part of the Family team, Jess primarily works within the realms of legal aid across a wide range of children law matters including care proceedings and child arrangements. She also deals with matters involving protective injunctions such as non-molestation orders and occupation orders. Jess has gained experience conducting her own advocacy in proceedings relating to non-molestation orders and is keen to undertake advocacy in other family disputes. Jess has a particular interest in family law and enjoys that no two days are ever the same. She is passionate about supporting clients through what is often a very overwhelming and difficult time. Jess prides herself on her level of client care and ability to establish a rapport with clients whilst maintaining professionalism. Jess is excited to begin her Training Contract and embark on the next stage of her career at MSB.

Jessica Jones

Jess is currently a Trainee Solicitor and joined the Civil Litigation team in March 2023. After originally joining the firm in January 2021 as the PA to Managing Partner Emma Carey, Jess successfully obtained a Training Contract with MSB in April 2022. After graduating from Liverpool Hope University in 2018 with a degree in English Language & Law, Jess went on to study a Master's degree in Law at Liverpool John Moores University, graduating in November 2019 before returning to the university to graduate again with Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. An important part of Jess's role at MSB is understanding and overseeing the firm's Environmental, Social and Governance activity. Alongside MSB's Green Team Jess leads the firm's environmental and sustainability practices by overseeing the firm's Environmental Policy and Environmental Business Strategy, which is essential for the sustainability conscious business development of the firm. Jess is also committed to her own personal development at MSB and will qualify as a Solicitor in September 2024.

Jessica Masih

Jess joined MSB as Paralegal in MSB's Social Housing department in November 2022 and successfully obtained a Training Contract with MSB in May 2023, which commences in January 2024. Jess graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a First Class Law Degree in 2022 and is extremely proud to be awarded the Law Society Proxime Accessit Award. Jess is currently studying the LPC and LLM part-time alongside her Training Contract. With a keen interest in the Housing Sector and whilst working in Social Housing, Jess has assisted Solicitors on an array of matters involving Disrepair, Anti-Social Behaviour and Housing Management. She gained experience in preparing and issuing cases, drafting pleadings as well as administrative assistance on cases. She is excited to explore other areas of housing such as Residential Conveyancing and Commercial Property to develop her knowledge and skills further. Joanne joined MSB in 2000 and was appointed as a non-lawyer Partner in 2010. She is an ambassador for internal progression and a positive role model to all. As the firm's Compliance Officer for Financial Administration, Joanne ensures MSB is operating efficiently, profitability and in compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules. She has developed an extremely comprehensive suite of policies and procedures to ensure exemplary financial controls are in place for all areas of work the firm practices in.

John McCreanney

John began his career at MSB as a Legal Assistant in 2008. Shortly after joining the firm, John was offered the opportunity to attain his legal qualifications with CILEX (The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives). John is now a Fellow of CILEX and was promoted to Associate in the summer of 2020, and Senior Associate in the summer of 2021. John is an experienced and pragmatic lawyer who can provide clear and concise legal advice to individual and business clients. John Owens

John is based in our Manchester office and has over 10 years' experience in family law, representing clients with a particular focus on divorce, high net worth financial matters ancillary to divorce, the preparation of both pre and post nuptial agreements and financial applications issued on behalf of children in cases which involve unmarried couples. He has experience of complex cases, often involving businesses, overseas assets, complicated pension or trust arrangements and inherited assets and also deals with cases where arrangements for the care of children are in issue, focusing on private Children Act Proceedings only. Throughout his career, John has developed a reputation for being commercial and proactive in his approach to cases. It is this reputation that has led to him being instructed by high profile business owners, sports and TV personalities and their spouses, property developers and professionals, including many from the legal community. John can quickly identify and focus on the central features to a case by cutting through the minutiae in Court proceedings, enabling him to adopt and implement the most cost-effective strategy for his clients and ensuring their cases are dealt with as amicably and expeditiously as possible. Jonathan Alderton

Jonathan graduated from Nottingham University with a degree in Ancient History. He converted to Law at the University of Law in Chester, before qualifying as a Solicitor in 2014. Amongst other positions, Jonathan has worked in commercial insurance before joining MSB in 2019. Jonathan has experience of dealing with a wide range of commercial disputes for a variety of SMEs and regularly assists the business service department in its offering of legal services to businesses in contentious and non-contentious matters.

Katie Kennedy

Katie moved from Ireland to Liverpool in 2017 to complete her Law degree at Liverpool John Moores University, thereafter she completed her Masters in Law in 2020 alongside completing her Legal Practice Course, achieving a distinction overall. Katie's Masters focused on those who are victims of domestic violence and the manner in which the Court deals with such crimes. Since joining MSB in October 2021 as a full-time Paralegal, Katie has worked within the Private Client Family department, assisting senior solicitors on the most complex private family matters. Katie assists on many different aspects of family law on a day-to-day basis including divorce, complex financial disputes, judicial separation, child arrangements and cohabitation disputes. With a drive to help others during a difficult period in their lives, Katie prides herself on her empathetic and approachable nature, which helps assist clients during their legal journey. Katie is particularly passionate about client care, and assisting fee earners in achieving the most desirable outcomes for clients.

Louise Murphy

Louise is Head of Social Housing & Regeneration at MSB and supervises the team. Louise qualified as a solicitor in 2008. She has developed MSB's Social Housing team into a formidable unit; she is tenacious and achieves outstanding results. Regularly delivering bespoke training across a broad spectrum of topics representing over 30 Registered Providers of various sizes and structures. Her experience is vast, and she is regularly called upon to speak at industry events and conferences, such as Liverpool Law Society's Annual Disrepair Conference and the CIH Northen Conference. Louise has comprehensive understanding of housing condition claims, governance, housing and asset management, tenancy enforcement and is able to offer Registered Providers of Social Housing focused and pragmatic advice. Maisie Gordon

Maisie is a Solicitor in the Commercial Property Department having trained and qualified at MSB in 2023. Maisie joined MSB in 2018 after graduating with a 2:1 in Philosophy and Law from the University of Liverpool. She completed both her GDL with LLM and her LPC at Liverpool John Moores University obtaining a Merit in both. During Maisie's time in the Commercial Property Department, she has been a part of the Social Housing and Regeneration Team acting for both large local Housing Associations as well as national Associations on all Shared Ownership matters as well as multiple disposals. Maisie has also acted on a range of commercial and residential matters including leasehold transactions for both Landlord and Tenant, as well as acquisitions and disposals. Maisie prides herself in building strong client relationships by having an approachable nature and professional approach. Maisie was awarded Paralegal of the Year 2020 by Merseyside Junior Lawyers Division which is something she is extremely proud. In her spare time, Maisie loves to return back to her rural hometown in Yorkshire whenever she can for long walks in the countryside.

Mark Forman

Mark joined MSB as a Partner in 2010, having qualified as a Solicitor in 1994 and successfully practiced in a large corporate law firm before founding his own commercial firm. Mark heads up a team of 18 and supervises the litigation, wills probate and estates, employment and commercial debt recovery teams. He boasts 25 years of legal experience in advising businesses and individuals in all non-contentious and contentious commercial issues, and has a strong reputation in resolving disputes and delivering effective commercial solutions for his clients. Over the years he has represented a significant number of large commercial businesses, small businesses, directors of companies, individuals wanting to acquire a business, shareholders and individuals. Mark advises on Shareholder disputes, Acquisitions of business, Contract disputes, Infringement/copyright, Civil and Commercial disputes, Shareholder Agreement/heads of terms/contracts/terms of business, Breaches of contract, Demerger of business and charities, Charites set up, Intellectual property, Professional Negligence, Restructuring and Mediation. Matthew Park

Matt joined MSB as a Paralegal in the Commercial Property team in July 2022 and secured a Training Contract with MSB to begin in September 2023. He obtained a 1st Class Law Degree from the University of Liverpool in 2021 and completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law Liverpool in 2022. Whilst working within the Commercial Property team Matt has represented a significant property developer in the Northwest working on several multi-million-pound developments in key cities across the UK. This has given him valuable experience completing commercial transactions which is something he is keen to continue developing throughout his training contract. In addition to his legal responsibilities, Matt has a passion for inclusion and diversity and has been avidly involved in promoting Neurodiversity initiatives at MSB and fundraising for the National Autistic Society. Matthew is now undergoing his training contract and looks forward to qualifying in 2025.

Matthew Summers

Matthew joined MSB after graduating from Liverpool John Moores University in 2022, and in May was offered a training contract commencing in September 2023. As a part of the Commercial Property Team at MSB, Matthew has represented several high-profile property developers from across the North West, working on large scale developments in Liverpool, Manchester and several other cities. Now working in residential property, he has a keen interest in the world of property and takes pride in the role he plays being a part of the development of the city. Matthew was a founding member of MSB's technology & innovation committee, which strives to ensure that the firm can continuously improve and keep up to date with the rapidly developing world of technology. Outside of work, Matthew enjoys an active lifestyle regularly training physically in both the gym and in competitive sports. An avid football fan, he is a season ticket holder at Goodison Park, where most of his weekends are ruined before they have even started.

Megan Clarke

Megan is a Trainee Solicitor in the Private Family Department, having joined MSB in July 2022 as a Paralegal. Megan graduated from the University of Law in Leeds in 2021 with Upper Second Class Honours in LLB Law and then graduated from the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law Liverpool in 2022. Megan began her Training Contact in September 2023 and will qualify as a Solicitor in September 2025. While working within the Private Family team Megan assists with a wide range of matters including divorce and ancillary financial matters, child arrangements, pre-nuptial agreements and cohabitation disputes. She has a keen interest in the family law sector and is keen to develop her knowledge and experience in this area during her training contract. Megan is passionate about providing high levels of client care and prides herself on her friendly and empathetic nature, often helping clients through a difficult and emotional time in their life. Megan is excited for her career at MSB and is eager to get involved in working with the local charities that the firm support. She is passionate about promoting equality and diversity within the legal sector and will be exploring opportunities to encourage this alongside her work.

Melissa Bosoboe

Melissa's main area of practise is commercial property. She works closely with individual and corporate clients to provide advice on commercial land or property acquisitions, commercial and residential developments, commercial leasing and property finance transactions. She also works on high-value or complex residential property transactions, providing guidance and advice in order to achieve the best outcome for the client. As part of MSB's drive for supporting the local community, Melissa sits as a member of the Steering Committee for the Mandela8 project and also sits on the MSB Equalities Committee.

Natasha joined MSB in February 2023, as a Paralegal, and works alongside Eamonn Sexton in the Personal Injury Department. Having read Law at Lancaster University, she graduated in 2022, and is presently completing, part-time, the Legal Practice Course, and a Masters Degree, at the University of Law. Such were her qualities and application, she was offered a Training Contract to qualify as a Solicitor, commencing in January 2024. Natasha looks forward to continuing her career with MSB and prides herself on the client-care and conscientious approach she brings to bear on each and every case she works upon.

Phil joined MSB in October 2019 and began his training contract in January 2022. Phil graduated from the Liverpool John Moores University in 2016 with a degree in Law and completed the LPC Qualification in 2017 at Liverpool John Moores University. Prior to joining the Commercial Property department at MSB, Phil began his legal career with a large national law firm working as a paralegal dealing with medical negligence and serious injury claims.  Phil later joined MSB as a Paralegal in the Plot Sales team, representing a high-profile property developer based across the North West and oversaw several large scale developments situated in Manchester and Kent. Working within the Plot Sales team gave Phil a valuable insight into completing large scale property transactions. Phil began his first seat as a Trainee in our Commercial Property department working for banks, bridging lenders and developers on multi-million pound commercial lending deals. Outside of work, Phil enjoys an active lifestyle with traveling, hiking and cycling and begrudgingly following Everton FC.Recently Phil and five other MSB colleagues took part in the Lake District Five Peak challenge for Liverpool Women's Hospital, raising over £3,000.

Eamonn joined the Personal Injury Team in 1995 and became Head of the Department in 2009. He is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and an accredited Mediator. Despite ongoing reforms that challenge the availability of access to justice, he leads our Personal Injury department with a determination to serve whomsoever we are able to. We have a formidable record of success in representing clients, be they Claimant or Defendant, in matters in which people have suffered injury and loss through the actions, or omissions, of others. This includes cases involving coercion, abuse, or violence which may be covered under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme. Whilst based in Liverpool city centre, Eamonn has been happy to meet clients at our other offices, or their homes, should they so wish, to advise, in person, on the merits of each individual case. In response to the present times, we are fully equipped to conduct meetings with clients remotely, via their preferred medium, and at their convenience, day or night.
