Cande Smillie

With over 25 years of experience in growth-oriented private and publicly held companies, including 15 years at the executive level, Cande joined Canes Midstream with the acquisition of Cogent Midstream. Her current responsibilities include overseeing human resources, risk, IT and administration. Prior to joining Cogent, Cande served as Vice President, Administration at JP Energy Partners, where she was responsible for corporate G&A, procurement, facilities, investor relations, administration and marketing as well as management of integration and diligence on M&A transactions. She has worked with many startup companies from inception to sale leading the full spectrum of back-office services. Cande is a licensed Texas CPA and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dan Westcott - CFO

Dan Westcott brings nearly 20 years of energy experience to Canes, including eight years of executive experience at Legacy Reserves, a Midland, Texas-headquartered producer, where he first served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, then President, and finally as Chief Executive Officer. As a publicly-traded master limited partnership, Dan helped raise more than $2 billion of capital to fund Legacy's strategic acquisitions and organic growth through debt, preferred and common equity as well as DrillCo capital. Prior to Legacy, Dan worked at GSO Capital Partners within The Blackstone Group for six years, investing in a broad range of debt and equity capital across the wide-ranging energy space in both the public and private markets. Before GSO, Dan worked at JPMorgan's energy investment banking group in Houston and New York. Dan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Science degree from Stanford University where he was an All-American swimmer.

Erik Isaac

Erik joined Canes Midstream as Vice President of Operations through the acquisition of Cogent Midstream. Erik previously served as Manager and then Director of Engineering at Cogent Midstream overseeing all aspects of the engineering department. Prior to joining Cogent Midstream, Mr. Isaac served in various engineering roles of increasing responsibility at Enbridge and DCP. Erik brings over nine years of engineering and operations experience to Canes. Erik holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Texas Tech University.

Lawson Crain

Job Titles:

Lawson joined Canes Midstream as a result of its acquisition of Cogent Midstream. He is a veteran of the natural gas gathering and processing space with over 10 years of experience. Prior to Canes, Lawson was Vice President of Business Development for Cogent Midstream, where his duties included business development and commercial activities. Lawson began his career with Energy Transfer Partners, holding various roles of increasing responsibility within the commercial and business development groups. Lawson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Southern Methodist University.

Mike Hicks - COO

Job Titles:

Mike brings over 34 years of natural gas gathering and processing experience to Canes Midstream. Mike joined Canes Midstream in March 2022 as Chief Operating Officer overseeing operations, engineering and environmental. Prior to joining Canes, Mr. Hicks was the President of Superior Pipeline Company, where he was responsible for the performance of natural gas gathering and processing facilities in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Before his role at Superior Pipeline Company, Mike held various positions at Aka Energy Group including Executive Vice President - Operations, President of Frontier Field Services and Lumen Midstream Services, which were all part of the Southern Ute Growth Fund. He has also served as the Director of Operations for Frontier Energy, a private equity-based midstream company, prior to its acquisition by Aka. Mike was the Director of Operations and Engineering for CMS Field Services before Frontier. He began his career as a plant engineer, maintenance engineer, process and project engineer, operations supervisor, plant manager, and area manager for Warren Petroleum\Chevron and later Dynegy, after Dynegy acquired Warren from Chevron. Mr. Hicks earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tulsa.

Scott Brown - CEO, Founder

Scott brings 31 years of energy industry experience to Canes with strong backgrounds in commercial development, engineering, operations and management. During his career Scott has held increasingly more responsible positions within public and private companies beginning as a Plant Engineer in 1991 and most recently President in 2018 prior to founding Canes Midstream in 2019. Scott was President of Lucid I (predecessor to Cogent Midstream), where he had responsibility for all aspects of the company. Prior to becoming President of Lucid I he was Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer for Lucid I and Lucid II, where he was responsible for all commercial activity for both entities that had a combined gathering and processing capacity during his tenure of more than 850 MMcf/d in the rapid growth Delaware and Midland basins of West Texas and New Mexico. During his career he has successfully contracted with producer customers, managed downstream marketing, and managed assets from both an operational and earnings standpoint for midstream assets in core producing areas including the Permian Basin, Barnett Shale, Haynesville Shale, Texas Gulf Coast, Eagle Ford and production from offshore Louisiana and Texas. Scott started his career with Warren Petroleum (formerly a division of Chevron), where he moved up from Plant Engineer to Operations Supervisor until Warren Petroleum was acquired by Dynegy in 1996 shortly after which he became manager of Business Development in Dynegy's Houston office. After leaving Dynegy in 2000 he moved up through the ranks of Cornerstone Propane, Crosstex Energy and lastly Energy Transfer Partners where he was Vice President of Business Development before leaving Energy Transfer and joining Lucid Energy Group in 2013. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tulsa and an MBA in finance from the University of Houston.

Tyler Laux

Tyler joined Canes Midstream as Vice President of Accounting through the acquisition of Cogent Midstream. Tyler was promoted to Vice President of Accounting at Cogent Midstream from Controller overseeing all aspects of the accounting department. Prior to joining Cogent Midstream, Mr. Laux served as Assurance Manager at Weaver where he focused on private equity backed oil and gas clients. Tyler brings over seven years of public accounting experience to Canes. Tyler is a licensed Texas CPA and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and finance from Indiana University.
