Dr. Tim Pokorny - CTO

Dr. Tim Pokorny is Calytrix's CTO, responsible for the oversight and management of our suite of COTS products. Tim has over 15 years experience with distributed simulation technologies such as HLA and DIS. He is the co-creator of Portico, a popular open source HLA Run-Time Infrastructure, and provides technical guidance and direction for Calytrix's complete product line. Tim holds a PhD in Distributed Simulation from the University of Ballarat and has worked as an active member of simulation industry groups both nationally and internationally via participation with the Simulation Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) and the Simulation Interoperability and Standards Organisation (SISO), previously as an appointed member on the SISO Standards Activity Committee (SAC).

Matt Moncrieff

Job Titles:
  • Training Systems Manager With Calytrix Training Systems
Matt is the Training Systems Manager with Calytrix Training Systems (CaTS) and manages the Calytrix Canberra office, liaising with Calytrix's numerous Canberra and Sydney based clients. Matt comes from a strong military operational and training background after 24 years with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in operational, command, training and instructional positions. Before joining Calytrix, Matt was a Director of Studies and Joint Operations Component Manager at the Australian Command and Staff College. Outside of training and instructional positions, Matt's experience has predominantly been in border protection operations. This experience includes command of a patrol boat and a two year secondment to the US Coast Guard as the Fisheries and Law Enforcement Officer. In addition to his business skills, Matt provides Calytrix and its customers with a detailed understanding of the challenges and benefits of integrating simulation into large scale training and exercise activities. His experience in this area extends across the military and disaster response domains. As well as his military qualifications, Matt holds a Masters of Business Administration.

Shawn Parr - CEO, Founder

Shawn is the CEO and Co-Founder of Calytrix Technologies. With over 20 years experience in the IT industry, the last 10 years in the Defence Simulation and Training domain, Shawn brings a wealth of knowledge and delivery experience to the organisation. Since taking on the role of CEO in mid-2005 Calytrix has enjoyed sustained growth and greater opportunities. Shawn has actively fostered an ethos of partnering with defence to ensure that Calytrix's solutions meet the training and operational needs of its customers. Shawn holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from the University of Queensland and a research based Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) in Component-Based Software Engineering from Griffith University.

Steve Salmon

Steve Salmon is a Principal of Calytrix Training Systems (CaTS) and has a wealth of military operational and training experience. Steve served 30 years in the Australian Defence Force predominantly in operational, command, training and instructional positions. Immediately prior to joining Calytrix, Steve was the Director of Studies and Joint Operations Component Director at the Australian Command and Staff College. In previous operational positions Steve was the Director of Joint Plans within the Headquarters of the Australian Defence Force responsible for developing strategic levels plans for ADF operations and the Deputy Commander of ADF forces in the Middle East (Iraq). Amalgamating Joint and Combined operational experience with his senior command and instructional abilities, both within Australia and overseas, Steve provides Calytrix with a valuable insight into military and emergency management operations and training. As the Principal of CaTS, Steve has been responsible for assisting clients to plan and conduct major training events through the integration of Live, Virtual and Constructive simulation systems. In addition to a wide variety of military qualifications Steve is a Graduate and Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a qualified Financial Planner, and Master Project Director with the Australian Institute of Project Managers.
