Dang Ngoc Tran

Dang is a chartered geotechnical engineer and started with EGL in 2021. Dang has a BE (Hons) from the University of Auckland, and supports EGLs clients with design delivery, construction monitoring and dam safety management systems on complex dam and infrastructure projects. Dang is passionate about staff wellbeing and diverse avenues for both team and individual growth. Dang is an avid foodie, enjoys art and crafts, loves the outdoors and generally anything to do with the sea.

Henrietta Mathews

Riette is a senior civil designer with EGL with experience in civil, mechanical and electrical drafting experience.

Jeremy Yeats

Job Titles:

Jeremy has a BSc (Civ.Eng) from South Africa and MSc (Soil Mech) from UK. Jeremy has over 40 years' experience working as a Geotechnical Engineer in South Africa, UK and for the last 20 years in NZ. He was a Director at EGL from 2006 to 2019 and now a Consultant to EGL. Jeremy enjoys the outdoors, and especially water sports.

John Frengley

John joined EGL in 2023 and has a (Bsc) in Geology from the University of Otago, and has a Master of Engineering Geology from the University of Auckland. He assists the engineering team with various analyses, CAD drawings, report writing and field investigations. John enjoys spending his time gardening, fishing, and acting.

Lillian Ding

Lillian joined EGL in April 2023, bringing with her four years of on-site geotechnical engineering experience. She holds a Bachelor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Honors) degree from the University of Auckland.

Nathan Tan

Job Titles:

Nathan joined EGL in 2018 after graduating with a BE(Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of Auckland. He assists the engineering team with various analyses, design, CAD drawings, report writing and gives the Engineering Geologists an extra boost with field work investigations when needed. Outside of work hours, Nathan enjoys basketball, music, and gaming.

Paul Carter

Paul is Chartered Professional Engineer (IPENZ) with over 20 years' experience in engineering geology and geotechnical engineering. He is highly specialised in the planning and execution of complex geotechnical investigations, terrain evaluation, land development and earthworks for large transportation projects, and commercial and residential structures. Paul stared out with EGL in 2000 then took a 15-year break and re-joined in 2016. Since re-joining EGL Paul has specialised in residential and commercial developments.

Rebecca Farrant

Rebecca started with EGL in 2022. She has a BE (Hons) from the University of Canterbury and has recently moved up to Auckland from Christchurch. Rebecca designs ponds and dams in the Marlborough Region. She is a member of Engineering New Zealand, New Zealand Geotechnical Society and New Zealand Society for Large Dams. Outside of work Rebecca enjoys rock climbing, playing music and soccer.

Sam Kang

Sam Started with EGL in late 2021. He has a bachelor's degree within Earth Science and Geography from University of Auckland. Sam is largely involved within field work and site investigations throughout the Auckland region. Sam's personal hobbies are meeting his friends outside of work and playing football during his free time.

Stephen Dalby

Job Titles:

Stephen has a MSc in Geology from The University of Auckland. His master's thesis involved investigating deep seated deformation within the Ruahine Ranges, located in the central North Island of New Zealand. He also has a BSc in Geology and Mathematics. Prior to studying, Stephen had experience working in surveying and the construction industry. While not at work, Stephen enjoys a variety of creative hobbies such as improvisational theatre and writing music.

Sue Barker

Sue Barker has been an Administrator/PA/Executive Assistant since leaving her place of education in the U.K. She has worked for a number of companies including a cosmetic company in the UK and helped to launch the perfume ‘Passion' by Elizabeth Taylor in 1988. She moved with her husband to New Zealand in 2006 and has been with EGL since January 2016 as their Senior Administrator. Sue has a keen interest in animals and visiting new places around the world.

Tony Fairclough

Anthony (Tony) is a Chartered Professional Engineer and Project Manager with over 30 years experience in the fields of Civil and Geotechnical engineering. He is also a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand and Engineers Australia. Anthony is a past Chair of the New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS). He has provided over 10 years service to the NZGS and previously held the roles of elected national management committee member (2010 - 2019), treasurer / vice-chair (2016 - 2017) and Chair (2018 - 2019). Worthy of particular note with respect to the NZGS, he was the Convener of the 19th NZGS symposium that was held in Queenstown during November 2013.

Trevor Matuschka

Trevor Matuschka has a BE (Hons) and PhD from the University of Auckland and is a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand. He has been a Director of EGL since 1989. Trevor has 40 years' experience as a geotechnical engineer. His main work interest is dams. He has worked on projects throughout New Zealand and in a number of overseas countries. He is currently Chair of the New Zealand Society on Large Dams (NZSOLD) and is a member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) Technical Committee on Seismic Aspects of Dam Design. In his spare time Trevor enjoys his lifestyle block, boating and mountain bike riding.

VIs (YUANZHI) CHEN

Yuanzhi has been Geotechnical Engineer at EGL since completing her BE(hons) in Civil Engineering and PhD in geotechnical earthquake engineering at the University of Auckland in 2017. Her doctoral research was on the holistic low-damage seismic design philosophy, with consideration of soil-foundation-structure interaction and the characteristics of ground motions. Yuanzhi has specific expertise in time history selection, finite element methods and geotechnical laboratory testing from her research. After joining EGL, she has specialized in dam and seismic assessments. Her projects include design, monitoring, surveillance and comprehensive safety reviews of tailings and water storage dams in New Zealand. Yuanzhi's experience includes dam breach, co-seismic embankment deformation, liquefaction, cyclic softening, retaining walls and soil creep settlement assessments. When away from the work, she enjoys travelling and exploring different cultures of the world.

Yuri Wang

Yuri has joined EGL as a Geotechnical Engineer since completing his PhD in geotechnical earthquake engineering at the University of Auckland in 2020. His doctoral research was on the seismic soil-pile interaction with the consideration of soil liquefaction and pile inclination. Yuri is experienced in finite element/difference analyses and geotechnical laboratory experiments. In his spare time, Yuri enjoys readings, movies, basketball, and board games.
