Edna Davies

Job Titles:
  • Member on the Board
My name is Edna Davies and I live at Preseli View, Redlands Farm, Hasguard Cross. I have always been involved in agriculture having lived and helped on a mixed farm - dairying, beef and poultry, in North Pembrokeshire during my younger days and after getting married I am involved in running an arable farm with my husband. I am a fluent Welsh Speaker. I attended Puncheston Primary School, Fishguard Secondary School and then went to undertake a Certificate of Education Qualification (Teaching Certificate) for 3 years at Bangor Normal College. My first teaching post was at Eglwyswrw Primary School followed by being appointed as Deputy Head Teacher at Fenton Infants School and then I was approached by the LEA to become an Acting Head Teacher at the School. In 1997 I was appointed Head Teacher at Golden Manor Infants School, Pembroke. This was a very interesting post as we had 4 classes of pupils being taught through the medium of English, 1 class being taught through the medium of Welsh and 1 class of Infant Autistic pupils. In 2001 I was appointed Head Teacher at Narberth C.P. School - 350 pupils with half the pupils being taught through the medium of English and the other half through the medium of Welsh even though none of the pupils came from a Welsh Speaking home. During my time at Narberth we moved from the old school building on Narberth Town Moor to the beautiful new building on Jesse Road. I was fortunate to have been very involved in the progress of the new building - selecting colour schemes, furnishings etc - a great experience. I have undertaken work with Estyn and have inspected many schools all over Wales. I have also worked as a Challenge Adviser in three counties. All these experiences gave me an insight to how schools work and what they offer and see the wide variety of opportunities our young people have. After retiring I was invited to join Broad Haven School Board of Governors and subsequently I am a governor at Ysgol Caer Elen and on the Shadowing Governing body of the new Welsh School proposed for Pembroke - Ysgol Bro Penfro. I do feel that the experiences and knowledge that I have had during my career has enabled me to be able to offer support and guidance and a listening ear to others. I enjoy meeting and helping people and my involvement with the YFC movement for many, many years has been a great delight of mine. I have trained young people for various competitions and often help them when they apply for posts, college places, interview skills etc. It gives me great pleasure to see the young people achieve, succeed and enjoy. I am also very involved in my local church in Talbenny and my home chapel in Llysyfran and currently chairman of the local village hall committee. Following rigorous form filling we have been fortunate in receiving a number of grants to improve the facilities in the hall. I have been a member of Haverfordwest Soroptomists for around 20 years.
