Pelagic Yachts' expedition designs are a distillation of Skip Novak's experience since 1987 of high latitude cruising and expedition sailing, and the collaboration with Tony Castro, the prolific UK based naval architect well known for his eclectic portfolio... Pelagic Australis, the well known high latitude expedition vessel launched in 2003, was the result of Novak's experience on his original Pelagic built in 1987, while operating in southern South American waters including the Antarctica Peninsula and the sub Antarctic island of South Georgia. The lessons learned from the first 14 years on the Pelagic were taken on board and working together with Tony Castro a bigger and refined design resulted in the present 23 meter/74 foot vessel.
