AERIAL VIDEO SURVEY

Most video surveys were conducted from a Bell Jet Ranger 206B helicopter with a custom video/audio system. The color video camera was supported by a counter-weighted, spring loaded mount to minimize vibration and movement. An onboard GPS unit provided navigation data that was recorded on the video image and was digitally archived. In-flight narration and commentary by the crew and pilot was recorded to further augment the video data. One seat in the helicopter was available for an additional observer or narrator, who doubled as the still photographer. Our system was designed to be portable and adaptable for use in other situations using alternate platforms or with other aircraft.
