Barry L. Maltz

Barry Maltz began his career at Loring over 50 years ago as a part-time summer draftsman and has held virtually every position in the company, stepping down as Chairman in 2016. Barry remains with the firm as Chairman Emeritus, manages the firm's quality assurance program, and takes a key role in mentoring young engineers from the time they receive their degree, and often even before. Among his top objectives is maintaining Loring's unique culture where every opportunity is open to every employee at every level, where Principals are truly hands-on and involved in the day-to-day details of every project, and where great people work on world-class projects for interesting clients. Barry received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and a Master of Engineering Management from the Polytechnic Institute of New York (now NYU Tandon School of Engineering). He is licensed in NY and NJ. Barry has served on the Public Buildings Committee of the New York Building Congress. He was also active with ACEC New York as a member of its NYC SCA Industry Liaison Committee, and as a member and former Chair of the Metro Region Electrical Codes Committee. Traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, and home improvement occupy his time outside of work.

Charles (Chas) Johnson - SVP

Charles (Chas) Johnson is a mechanical engineer by training, charged with the development and management of Loring's K-12 education, residential, and mixed-use building sectors. A long-term member of the Loring team since 1992, Chas has been involved in the successful project management and design of numerous ground-up buildings during his tenure with the firm. As Principal, he works to promote open and ongoing communication with clients and the project management teams he oversees. He credits the success of the firm to its diverse and close-knit team of engineers who are working together for a common goal: client satisfaction and the delivery of on-time, on-budget projects that meet and surpass end-user needs. Chas is a graduate of Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is licensed in the state of New York. He is an enthusiastic hiker and volunteers his time coaching youth sports.

Damian Payne - SVP

Damian Payne joined Loring as an intern in 1999 and has consistently risen through the ranks to become our newest Principal and Senior Vice President in 2021. With over 20 years of experience designing academic institutions, laboratory, commercial, healthcare, aircraft cargo, and tenant facilities, his expertise includes surveying, existing condition reports, load calculations, equipment selections, ductwork and piping design, specifications, commissioning, and construction administration. At Loring, Damian leads the Facility Group in our New York office with an emphasis on the higher education and cultural sectors, serving both public and private clients such as Columbia University, New York University, Barnard University, Rockefeller University, New York City Department of Design and Construction, and the New York City Department of Citywide Construction Services. Damian is a graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree and an emphasis on HVAC systems. He takes great pride in mentoring and educating young professionals both within the firm and in the industry. During his career, he has been a part of multiple committees and programs that have allowed for the sharing of ideas and the opportunity to mentor the next generation of engineers. These committees include ACE Mentor Program, ACEC Emerging Leaders Committee, ACEC Leadership Institute, and AIA NY Historic Building Committee.

Hallah Abodaff

Hallah Abodaff is the Managing Principal at Loring's Washington, DC office, directing all operations including all aspects of business management and project oversight. She began her career in electrical engineering at Loring two decades ago while still in graduate school and has become integral to the firm's leadership, advocating and delivering for clients, mentoring staff, and encouraging an environment that is open, diverse, and collaborative.

J. Michael Galway

J. Michael Galway is Managing Principal of Loring's Gaithersburg, MD office and Principal at the Washington, DC office, which, through his 40 years of multifaceted engineering experience, he has steered to a greater project diversity and complexity. Michael joined Loring in 2004, inspired by his high school study of the World Trade Center and its renowned architect Minoru Yamasaki and electrical engineer Joseph Loring. Since then, Michael has contributed a wealth of expertise to Loring's growing DC operation in the areas of building design, master planning, LEED and sustainable implementation, and quality assurance and quality control reviews for the GSA, NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the Smithsonian Institution. In addition to managing the office's day-to-day operations and strengthening its presence in the healthcare, higher education, science and technology, and utility plant market sectors, Michael also serves as the Senior Mechanical Engineer and a member of the Joint Venture Executive Committee overseeing the design of two of the nation's treasured landmarks, the Smithsonian Castle in Washington, DC, and the Philadelphia Custom House in Philadelphia, PA. Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Penn State University. He is licensed in over 12 states including, MD, DE, and District of Columbia. He is certified in plumbing engineering design (CPD), is a LEED Accredited Professional, and is a member of ASHRAE, ASPE, APT, and IFMA. He has a passion for the outdoors, his 1966 Mustang, and antique bottle collecting.

Joseph Charity III

opened Loring's Durham, NC office in 2014, following a 10-year tenure in Loring's New York City headquarters, ultimately leading the Corporate Interiors Group there. With a background in electrical engineering, Joe came to Loring straight from college for the opportunity to work on high-profile and complex projects in airports and commercial high-rise buildings, and quickly became a rising star with a deep commitment to client care. When family obligations called Joe south to Raleigh, North Carolina, Loring's desire to retain promising young professionals, as well as to expand their geographical footprint, led to the establishment of the Durham office with Joe at the helm. It was a bold move that paid off. Under Joe's leadership, the office has developed a strong base of regional and national clients in corporate interiors, including the design of spaces in over 35 states for IWG, renovation of offices for IBM and KPMG, and growing the practice in commercial renovations and new construction in the higher education, K-12, and healthcare market sectors. Joe holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (A&T) State University. He is a LEED Green Associate. Joe has a passion for mentoring younger staff and enjoys seeing them grow both internally and externally under his leadership. He takes pride in listening to the client's requirements and developing a plan to ensure the client's needs are met. Joe's time away from work is dedicated to spending time with his young family.

Michael DesRochers launched his engineering career as a summer intern at Loring in 1982, rising through the ranks to take the helm as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 2016. As part of Loring's long-term ownership transition plan, beginning in 2024 Mike will retain his position as Chairman and will continue to serve on Loring's Executive Committee responsible for setting the firm's overall direction and growth. He takes an active role as the Principal-in-Charge on some of Loring's most complex projects, with specialized expertise in healthcare, infrastructure upgrades, hospitality, historic restorations, and public sector work. A product and a proponent of Loring's strong mentoring tradition, Mike maintains a highly visible and accessible presence with the firm's next generation of leaders. His goal is to pay forward his love of the profession-the challenges and the fun-and instill a desire to continue the reputation of excellence that the Loring name represents for generations to come. Mike holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Penn State University and a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University, and served for 25 years as an adjunct professor at NYU's School of Professional Studies. He is licensed in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, the District of Columbia, and 10 other states. He serves as an active member of several committees for ACEC New York, and on the Board of Directors for Design Professionals Risk Control Group, an organization committed to risk management in the AEC industry.

Miguel Gaspar - SVP

Miguel Gaspar leads Loring's Building Services Group, which specializes in K-12, residential, and mixed-use buildings. His clients include leading developers and institutions in both the private and public sectors. Miguel has overseen numerous Design-Build projects, working closely with owners and development teams on successful projects ranging from ground-up construction, renovations, and additions to infrastructure improvements. Miguel is an experienced leader who works to promote open and ongoing communication with clients and the staff he oversees. Miguel is a graduate of Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is licensed in the State of New York. He is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) NY Chapter, and volunteers his time in various community programs including Habitat for Humanity and the Hoboken Community Center.

Nigel Bastiampillai - SVP

Nigel Bastiampillai joined Loring in 2016 to start up and lead the firm's Toronto office, managing all aspects of operations in Canada. He brings to Loring a decade of expertise in data centers and mission critical projects, as well as experience in airport, university, and healthcare projects. Under his direction, the Toronto office has amassed a diverse portfolio of work in retail, corporate interiors, commercial, healthcare, higher education, and research, as well as numerous projects for prominent banking firms, government agencies, and developers. Prior to joining Loring, Nigel spent the better part of a year helping to run his family's high-tech printing business in Sri Lanka. Meeting the challenges of managing a business-from HR to P&L-was a primer for Nigel on the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship. As head of Loring Toronto, Nigel combines this valuable skillset with exacting customer service standards and a strong technical engineering background, fostering a growth-oriented, client-responsive environment. A racecar aficionado, Nigel holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with an Automotive Option from the University of Windsor, a Master of Motorsport Engineering and Management from Cranfield University (UK), as well as the Osgoode Certificate in Construction Law from the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University. He is a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), Board Member of the Building Commissioning Association (BCA) for the Eastern Canada Chapter, and a member of the Association for Computer Operations Management (AFCOM).

Rahul Tikekar is a recognized expert in the field of healthcare engineering, with over two decades of experience in world-class hospital and medical facilities design in the tri-state region. He joined Loring in 2015 to build the firm's dedicated healthcare practice, now one of its most significant centers for project volume, growth, and revenue. Under Rahul's direction, the Healthcare Group has had the opportunity to work for such acclaimed institutions as Mount Sinai Health System, NYU Langone, Montefiore Medical Center, Northwell Health, and NewYork-Presbyterian, and is looking to replicate its success and expand its geographic footprint nationwide. From procurement to construction, Rahul is responsible for a large and diverse portfolio of critical infrastructure upgrades, new construction, and fit-outs for, among others: ambulatory care and surgical facilities, diagnostic imaging, critical care centers, cancer centers, children's hospitals, nursing homes, research laboratories, clean room pharmacies, dental schools, and behavioral health centers. He maintains high-level quality control on all projects to ensure the engineering designs meet client needs and industry standards, and plays a central role in supporting client relationships, developing new business opportunities, and mentoring young staff. Rahul holds an MBA from Baruch College, a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering in his native India. He is licensed to practice engineering in New York State and is a member of the Healthcare Engineering Society of New York (HESGNY), the Association of Medical Facility Professionals (AMFP) New York City Chapter, the American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), the Healthcare Facilities Management Society of NJ, and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). In addition, Rahul sits on the Healthcare Committee of NYC Builds Bio and is a member and past award recipient of the Maharashtra Foundation, a charitable organization that helps the underprivileged in rural India.

Steven J. Kenah - President

Steven Kenah began his career at Loring more than 27 years ago. Today he is the President and Principal-in-Charge of HVAC Systems design, with special expertise in higher education, laboratory, and technology facilities. Taking a hands-on, collaborative approach to projects and client management, Steve has steered numerous technically challenging projects to successful and award-winning completion, including groundbreaking assignments for multiple universities such as The State University of New York at Stony Brook, Columbia University, and The City University of New York. His goal for Loring: to become the "go-to" firm for higher education technology projects. A self-proclaimed beneficiary of the firm's "no barriers to growth" philosophy, Steve remains a champion of Loring's flexibility and the opportunities granted to employees to work on projects that suit individual interests and talents. Steve holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree from Penn State University and an Executive Master's degree in Technology Management from the University of Pennsylvania. A member of ASHRAE and ACEC New York's Mechanical Code Committee, he has earned many awards from ASHRAE for his project work at Loring. He is licensed in over 15 states, including New York and New Jersey. Steve is a soccer coach and a devoted spectator of his children's sporting events, which occupies his "spare" time.
