PENAN SUPPORT

We are a volunteer-based, non-profit organization run through Jerudong International School in Brunei. We aim to promote Penan artisans and provide alternate incomes for their communities by selling traditional woven bags and baskets in Bandar Seri Begawan... We work solely with Penan living in non-traditional settlements on the periphery of the city of Miri. These are people who have become assimilated into mainstream Malaysian society, where they struggle against crippling poverty and discrimination. Our aim is not to encourage further assimilation or westernization of these peoples, but rather to help alleviate the immediate problems of their day-to-day situation and to give them a greater voice in Malaysian society...
