Bob Holderness

Bob Holderness is the sole proprietor of the Holderness Law Firm which was formed in November 1980. The law firm relocated from Sacramento to Folsom, California in 1998. At present, Bob primarily practices law in the fields of land use and real estate. He has, however, handled a wide variety of public law and civil litigation matters including service as general counsel to the California Physical Therapy Association, appearances before state and local regulatory bodies, real estate and ranch litigation, partnership and corporate shareholder litigation, administrative hearings, and public contract bid protests before the California State Claims Board. He has successfully advocated a number of land use entitlement projects and is currently working on a 3,600 acre Folsom annexation project, among other things. His real estate clients include AKT Development, KT Communities, Parker Development Company and Elliott Homes, Inc. In addition to his law practice, Bob Holderness has a long record of public service and political activity. He was chairman of the Sacramento County Democratic Unified Campaign in 1978. He was elected to the Folsom City Council in November 1990, and assumed the office of Vice Mayor in December 1990. In December 1992, Bob was elected Mayor of Folsom by his peers. He was re-elected to the city council in November, 1994, and continued to serve as Mayor until December 1995. During his time on the Folsom city council he also served as the Chairman of the Sacramento-Placerville Transportation Corridor Joint Powers Authority, member of the Folsom-El Dorado County Joint Powers Authority, and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District. In 1994, Bob spearheaded the campaign to build a new bridge across the American River which opened for business in August, 1999. Then, in 1996, he spearheaded the campaign to bring Sacramento's light rail system to Folsom. Bob lead the negotiations which established a Memorandum of Understanding between Folsom and Sacramento Regional Transit, which led to the construction of the Gold Line and the opening of light rail to Folsom in October, 2005. Currently, Bob is Chairman of the Folsom Tourism Bureau Board of Directors, a member of the Board of Directors for the Folsom Economic Development Corporation and Chairman of the Long Range Strategic Planning subcommittee of the board. In addition, he serves on the citizens' steering committee for the foundation of a private university in the Sacramento region. In 2004 Bob headed up the successful campaign for Measure "W", a growth management initiative for the City of Folsom, which passed with over 69% of the vote. Bob also served on a citizens committee for Renewal of Measure "A", a Sacramento county sales tax for transportation projects, which passed with over 70% of the vote in 2004. Bob is a graduate of Santa Clara University and he obtained his law degree from University of California, Los Angeles. Before entering private law practice Bob served four years in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, serving with the Fourth Armored Division, First Armored Division, both a part of US Army, Europe, and the U.S. Army Judiciary in Washington, D.C., where he represented clients before Article I appellate courts.
