Research Interests: GIS, sustainable development, data visualization and analysis
Research Interests: Computer vision, remote sensing
Eleanor Stokes is interested in the relationship between the spatial form and structure of the built environment and urban resource use, and the impact of urbanization on greenhouse gas emissions. Before joining the Urbanization and Global Change Group, she received a MS in mechanical engineering at MIT, focusing on daylighting and building technology, and a BA from Dartmouth College in math and studio art. She has six years of professional experience in the building technology field, specializing in high performance building design, daylight analysis, renewable energy feasibility studies, and energy efficient mechanical and lighting design. She is a NASA Jenkins doctoral fellow, and spends her summers in Washington DC at Goddard Space Flight Center working with the Terrestrial Information Systems Laboratory using the new Suomi-NPP VIIRS Day/Night Visible Band to analyze urbanization dynamics.

Richa Mahtta is interested in the relationship between contemporary urbanization and resource use: How variability in this relationship impact societies and environment across scales? Her current research focusses on understanding three-dimensional urban expansion in global cities. She has over seven years of research and consulting experience in diverse fields after completing her Master's in Natural Resource Management (2011). She has led several projects, independently and in collaboration, with national and international organizations (IIASA, World Bank, TERI and WRI) on environmental management and sustainable development issues at varied spatial scales (urban, regional, and global).
Research Interests: Biodiversity; habitat loss; threatened species; urban land-use change; human health
My name is Shijuan Chen. I am a postdoctoral associate at Yale University. I got my PhD in Earth and Environment at Boston University. My research focuses on using remote sensing technology to monitor terrestrial ecosystems. My research interests include land cover and land use change, remote sensing, deforestation and forest degradation, carbon cycle, urban ecology, urban heat island, and environmental justice.
