Peter Berry Ottaway

Peter has provided technical advice to the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) in the UK since the late 1980s and to a European association since the early 1990s. He has been heavily involved with the International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA) since its creation in 1998, regularly attending Codex Additives and Contaminants meetings on IADSA's behalf. Peter Berry Ottaway is a food scientist and technologist with considerable experience in food law. After graduating from the University of London, England in 1963 he was involved in pure research followed by employment in applied research management with two multinational food companies. In 1974 he formed a scientific consultancy (Berry Ottaway & Associates Limited) specialising in food science, technology, nutrition and food law. For sixteen years he was also a director of a laboratory involved in the microbiological and chemical testing of food, water and cosmetic products.

Sam is Technical Director to the Council for Responsible Nutrition UK (CRN UK), whose members she has been supporting since 2006. She has been a member of the International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA) international Technical Working Group since its conception in 2010, and was Chair of this group from 2012 to 2017. She was a member of the IADSA Scientific Council from 2006 until its cessation in 2018. Sam is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) in the UK, and was Chair of the IFST Food Regulatory Special Interest Group from 2017 to 2021. She is also a member of the Institute of Food Technologists, USA and of the Society of Dairy Technology, UK. Sam is Chair of the UK Government's Office for Product Safety and Standards Business Expert (Food Standards & Labelling) Group. She is a member of the UK Food Standards Agency's (FSA) Working Group on Food Standards, which is helping develop the FSA's Achieving Business Compliance programme. ​In a rather different role, Sam is the current Honorary Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee for the IFST. ​Sam Jennings has been working for Berry Ottaway & Associates Ltd since 2001. She provides advice to industry and governments globally on scientific, technical and regulatory aspects of food, particularly in relation to food supplements, functional foods and their ingredients.

Susan Berry Ottaway

​Susan graduated in 1974 with a degree in Applied Biology. From the mid-1970s she worked on environmental issues in the UK, and through the European Environmental Bureau, was involved in the development of EU Environmental Directives, both in London and Brussels.
