Gavin gained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Auckland in 1999, majoring in Economics and Financial Accounting. He has also completed his Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Personal Financial Planning) through Massey University. Gavin is a Certified Financial Planner CM Practitioner, a member of Financial Advice New Zealand (FANZ) and the New Zealand Trustees Association as well as an Associate Member of the Institute of Directors. Gavin is a licensed Financial Adviser, FSP 7061. Prior to the 2021 regulatory changes he was an Authorised Financial Adviser (AFA) and his authorisation was presented to him at a formal ceremony in December 2010 acknowledging the first AFA's in New Zealand. Gavin has extensive industry experience, working for 20 years as an adviser at NZFP where he provided specialised retirement planning, investment advice and personal risk management solutions. In 2019 he established Avenue Advice to build and provide New Zealand and Australian centric managed portfolios to New Zealand investors. On a personal level, Gavin believes that the decreasing financial support provided by the Government and the increasing awareness among the community that you must provide for yourself has led to the retirement and personal insurance issue becoming ever more complex. KiwiSaver has helped provided part of the solution but will not fill the asset gap for the large majority of middle to high income earners in the future. While strains on the health system will continue to grow, emphasizing even more the importance of taking ownership of ones own risk needs. Gavin is married, has two daughters and a son, and lives in Devonport on Auckland's North Shore. He is a current member of the Devonport Rotary Club and has filled many roles during his 20 years of being a Rotarian. He is the Chair of the St Leos Primary School Board, a Board member on the TBBA (Takapuna Beach Business Association) and a Volunteer Firefighter with Fire & Emergency NZ. His interests include fine wine and dining, along with outdoor pastimes such as fishing, diving, tramping and hunting. Gavin has been our adviser for over 15 years. We have always found him to be knowledgeable and professional. He has managed our funds with individual care for our needs and we would have no hesitation recommending him to others. Gavin is a very approachable man and we now consider him a friend as well as our adviser.
