Dr. Abhishek Choudhary

It is our great pleasure to introduce Dr. Abhishek Choudhary who joined San Jose Gastroenterology in April 2019, with 7 years of experience as a Gastroenterology specialist. Dr. Choudhary is board certified in Gastroenterology. He completed residency and fellowship training at the University of Missouri in 2012. He was chosen to serve as Chief Resident and Chief Fellow during training. Dr. Choudhary received advanced fellowship training in therapeutic endoscopy at Stanford University in 2016.

Dr. Brian Levitt

As a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist, Dr. Levitt takes pride in his evidence-based and compassionate practice of medicine. His interests include diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy/colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, and viral hepatitis. He is also proficient in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Dr. Brian Levitt graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in Psychology from University of Pennsylvania and then earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He completed Internal Medicine residency at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center. Gastroenterology fellowship training followed at Montefiore Medical Center at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr. Levitt joined San Jose Gastroenterology in July 2007 putting him over 12 years of experience as a Gastroenterology specialist.

Dr. Eugenie Shieh

Dr. Eugenie Shieh is committed to providing excellent and efficient comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for digestive and liver diseases. She is extensively trained in all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Her clinical interests include colorectal cancer screening, gastrointestinal bleeding, gastroesophageal reflux disease and liver disease. Dr. Shieh graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. degree in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College. She received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has received additional training in clinical pharmacology and clinical investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Shieh was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California and is excited to have returned to her roots in California. She enjoys playing tennis, hiking and traveling. She is fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese. Dr. Shieh joined San Jose Gastroenterology in September 2017.

Dr. Geeta Kutty

It is our great pleasure to introduce Dr. Geeta Kutty who joined San Jose Gastroenterology in March 2019. Dr Kutty is a board-certified Gastroenterologist who believes in providing comprehensive evidence-based care in a compassionate environment. As a physician, she values the importance of educating her patients so that her patients trust her and feel comfortable with their treatment plan. Dr. Kutty's clinical interests include pancreatic and biliary disease (including ERCP), as well as Barrett's ablation, capsule endoscopy, and esophageal motility disorders (including esophageal manometry). Dr. Kutty graduated with honors from D.Y. Patil Medical College in Pune, India. She was awarded Outstanding Student of the Year in her final year while serving as Chief Medical Officer. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois. She received Excellence in Teaching Award during residency years 2013 and 2014. After residency, she conducted research in inflammatory bowel disease at the University of Chicago. Her training culminated with her fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, which she completed in 2018. Dr. Kutty has published in many peer reviewed journals and has presented her research at national and international meetings. She is fluent in English, Hindi,and Malayalam. In her free time, Dr. Kutty enjoys camping, hiking and traveling with her family. She is married with two children.

Dr. Huy A. Nguyen

Dr. Huy A. Nguyen graduated with a BS degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis and received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. After finishing his Internal Medicine residency training at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, he completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Minnesota Medical School with a defined interest in hepatitis C. He served as Associate Chief of Gastroenterology at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for two years after completing his fellowship. In 2009, Dr. Nguyen was recognized as a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF), by which the American Gastroenterological Association honors superior professional achievement in clinical private or academic practice and in basic or clinical research. As a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist, his interests include Inflammatory Bowel disease, Liver disease, and Viral Hepatitis B and C. He has published articles in the American Journal of Gastroenterology and other peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Nguyen has been in practice in San Jose since 2001, and joined San Jose Gastroenterology in January 2004 putting him at over 15 years of experience.

Dr. Huy N. Trinh

Dr. Huy N. Trinh graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley and received his medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency training at VA Wadsworth/UCLA and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine. As a Board Certified Gastroenterologist with 28 years of experience, Dr Trinh treats various digestive and liver diseases and performs colonoscopies and EGD. His research interest is in viral hepatitis B, hepatitis C, fatty liver and liver cancer. He is also very active in the aspect of clinical research for drug treatment of viral hepatitis B and C. He participates as principal investigator in many national and international clinical trials and he also has a number of his own investigator initiated research studies. He has more than 60 articles published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals including Gastroenterology, Hepatology, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Hepatology, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, etc. He is the founder and co-medical director of San Jose Liver Tumor Board which comprised of local and Stanford gastroenterologists, hepatologists, Liver Transplant surgeons, radiologists and interventional radiologists. The tumor board provides a comprehensive and state of the art medical care for liver cancer patients. Dr. Trinh has been in practice since 1991 and is a founding member of San Jose Gastroenterology, Montpelier Surgery Center and Advanced Surgery Center in San Jose. He is a member of American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). Dr. Trinh was recognized as Fellow of AGA (AGAF) and AASLD (FAASLD) Dr Trinh is an award recipient of Humanitarian of the Year: San Francisco Ho Chi Minh Sister City Committee for his work in liver health in Vietnam. He is also awarded Certificate of Commendation by County of Santa Clara County of Supervisors for his dedication and services to Vietnamese American community in Santa Clara county.

Dr. Khanh K. Nguyen

Dr. Khanh K. Nguyen graduated with a BS degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis and received his medical degree from the University of Southern California. After completing his Internal Medicine residency training at VA Wadsworth/UCLA, Dr. Nguyen went on to receive his gastroenterology subspecialty training at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. As a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist with 18 years of experience, his primary interest is in biliary tract diseases. Dr. Nguyen also has expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Dr. Nguyen has been in private practice since 2001 and joined San Jose Gastroenterology in January 2005.

Dr. Treta Purohit

Dr. Purohit is a well-rounded general gastroenterologist with special interests in colorectal cancer screening, GERD, inflammatory bowel disease and pancreaticobiliary disease. She is also certified and trained in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and ERCPs (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography). She joined San Jose Gastroenterology in July 2017. Dr. Purohit completed her medical training from T.N. Medical College in Mumbai. She followed this with a Master's in Public Health with focus on Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases from Johns Hopkins University. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. She received numerous teaching awards during residency and was awarded Outstanding Resident of the Year in her final year. She followed this with training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the William Beaumont Hospital System in Royal Oak, Michigan. Dr. Purohit has published in many peer reviewed journals and has received Presidential Poster Awards at the American College of Gastroenterology meetings for her research.
