For over 20 years, I have volunteered for Life with Cancer, an organization in Fairfax County that helps patients and families who are dealing with cancer. My husband volunteered with our annual fundraiser as well, until his cancer diagnosis in 2009. In an instant, we became participants in all the services Life with Cancer offered: doctors, nurse navigators, counseling and in 2011, when that counseling switched to grief counseling.
