As it grew in popularity and the caementa urbis - the concrete walls of Rome - took shape, the word caementa was used to describe the finished structure rather than the method used to make it solid... This smooth and uniformly attractive flooring with exposed aggregates - typically marble. It's applied seamlessly in-situ in thickness of at least 10-20mm and then ground & polished with diamond abrasives / diamond polisher...
