Kelly MacKenzie is a Kelowna/Vernon Counsellor and a member of good standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (#13912) and has her MA in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. She also has a Bachelor degree in social work from the University of Calgary. My journey started out with trying to understand my own thoughts and feelings and eventually expanded to wanting to understand human behavior. Human behavior had always fascinated me, but it was even more so when my children's well being counted on me being educated in a skill set that supported their challenges. When my children were diagnosed with Autism/schizophrenia and ADHD, I received amazing support from social workers and child psychiatrists which helped shape my decision to go to school for my Bachelor of Social Work and my Master in Counselling Psychology. While taking my degrees I worked in a variety of areas that helped me open my mind to new and different perspectives from people struggling with life's challenges, but still full of hope and gratefulness; people who were accessing wet shelters, safe shelters (domestic violence), and group homes (cognitive disabilities). I have held "frontline" positions as well as leadership roles which furthered my knowledge of the dynamics and skills required to build and grow a strong, cooperative team. These experiences directly impacted my move from social work to therapeutic counselling so I could pursue my passion in supporting and teaching others to find their right path. I have experience working with:
