We are a research group based in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University, Montréal, Québec. Under the leadership of Dr. Monica Mulrennan, our group is comprised of several graduate students and doctoral candidates, as well as many community partners... Our research projects focus on environmental stewardship and resource use by indigenous and other local communities, more particularly in coastal and marine environments. We are interested in the use of traditional knowledge in resource management, the relationship between people and their territories, and how this influences protected area governance or resource management in general. Our two primary research sites are Torres Strait, northern Australia and Wemindji, eastern James Bay northern Québec, although some projects have taken place in other locations over the past few years. We work closely with our indigenous partners in decolonizing geographic and environmental conservation research.
