April Bower

April Bower has always been fascinated by all the varied processes involved in metalworking. After receiving a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree, she taught metalsmithing for Parks & Rec, and then she spent 18+ years doing bench work in fine jewelry stores in Arizona. Her focus has spanned from fine jewelry to copper fountain sculptures. Using those same chemicals used to color the fountain parts, she developed "Patina Painting" on thin copper sheets, originally salvaged from industry leftovers, supported by wood backings. "Copper is an interesting metal, offering a huge range in colorations". April, who is also a watercolorist, thinks painting with chemicals on copper is a lot like watercolor; "you never know exactly how it will turn out. It's the results, and what you do with it that makes it interesting. It's a balance between you controlling it…and it controlling you"

Beverly Todd

Through large-scale abstract painting, Beverly interprets nature. Connects with ideas. And explores emotion. Her painting process is physical, using hardware-store brushes. Broken sticks. Rags. And hands. To move paint. To add layers. To pull back layers. To drip. To scrape and wipe. And to pull the paint across the surface. Beverly grew up in rural American near Union, Nebraska. Often happily lost for hours in the open prairie landscape that inspires her work. Today, she paints in her Santa Fe, New Mexico, studio and takes cues from the high desert landscape. Wanting to give other creatives the same experience, Bev opened Santa Fe Artist Getaway in 2019 - a place for all artists to stay, play, and create. Jean Bradbury

Job Titles:

JEAN BRADBURY, a Seattle based painter, explores her love of nature with large scale acrylic and metallic leaf works that depict plants and animals in whimsical landscapes. Her use of metallic leaf allows her to capture the changing light of day so that her artworks reflect light in even the darkest spaces. Bradbury has a BFA from Queen's University and grew up on an organic farm in rural New Brunswick. She currently works with the United Nations teaching farm women in the country of Jordan about natural dyes and textile design. Jeanne Bessette

Job Titles:
  • Instructor
Jeanne considers herself one of the fortunate ones. She has enjoyed much success living a creative life as a full time artist. Her deep desire to help others do the same has led her to teaching and mentoring other creatives to live a fuller more authentic life. If you ask her what she attributes her career success to, she will tell you it is a combination of inner work, devotion to her craft, a keen eye on her business and a boots on the ground tenacity. Her workshops and retreats are filled with depth, warmth and wit with a sprinkle of technique. Her intuitive approach to painting and her ability in helping artists find their true voice leads her workshop participants to developing a stronger sense of self. "I'm a realist which to me means I imagine the best, most outrageous life I can imagine, then I go about the business of achieving that life. If I were asked to describe myself in one sentence, I'd probably ask for an extension. I paint almost every day in my studio in Raleigh, North Carolina, which is literally 25 paces from my back door (less if you have longer legs). I'm not a native to the South; I'm a repaired New Englander which means I talk to strangers, smile more and grump less, but I still love going home to Rhode Island. I have an organic garden. I have a simple but full life. My favorite color is purple…to the point of ridiculous. When I put my purple Doc Martens on, I think I have super powers. I love strawberries and caramel candy apples, not so much chocolate. I know! Can we still be friends? I'm a really good golfer. I'm a wine snob, a total foodie and I cook without recipes. In fact, recipes make me squeamish. I've been featured in several articles and magazines including landing on the cover of "Art Business News" as one of the top fifty artists to watch (I'm proud of that…so is my mom). I am now internationally collected and recognized in six countries."
