GOSSCHALKS - Key Persons
Abigail specialises in construction matters. She acts for a wide range of clients from large construction companies and developers to smaller subcontractors, professional consultants and financiers. She is known for her commercially minded and pragmatic approach.
She has extensive experience in reviewing, negotiating and drafting the full suites of construction documents including building contracts, professional appointments, collateral warranties, parent company guarantees and performance bonds. Abigail regularly works with all the standard forms of contract including JCT and NEC.
Abigail also deals with resolving a broad range of construction disputes via adjudication, mediation and the Technology & Construction Court.
She regularly provides training seminars to clients and professional associations (including Constructing Excellence and the Humber Training Group) on a variety of construction-related topics.
Adam was born in Beverley and grew up in Tickton, East Yorkshire. He studied at Beverley Grammar School, the University of Hull and York College of Law. Adam joined Gosschalks in 2010 as a Trainee and qualified in to our Commercial Property department as a Solicitor in September 2012.
Part of the Licensed Leisure & Retail team, Adam specialises in licensed premises and transactional estate work.
Alex joined Gosschalks in 2011 and has worked within the Licensed Leisure Team ever since. Prior to joining the firm, Alex studied for two years at the College of Law in York. Before that, he worked in marketing, franchising and the leisure industry. Alex qualified as a solicitor in 2013.
Alex deals primarily with the licensing of public houses, supermarkets and hotels on behalf of a number of household names across the UK. He also acts for individuals both locally and nationally.

Alicia joined Gosschalks as a Trainee Solicitor in 2017 and qualified into the Commercial Property department in September 2019. Alicia advises on all areas of commercial property with a particular interest in agricultural property having grown up on a farm.
Alicia is known for being studious in her approach and enjoys getting the best possible result for her clients.
After completing her A-Levels, Allanah studied at the University of York and graduated in 2020 with a 2:1 degree in Law. In 2021 Allanah studied for her LPC and Masters in law at BBP in Leeds where she achieved a distinction.
Allanah qualified into the Litigation Department in September 2023, with a particular focus on wills and probate litigation.
In her spare time, Allanah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, keeping fit, attending a monthly book club and travelling.
After graduating from Hull University in 2016 with a 2:1 degree in Law, Amelia worked in the litigation department at another local firm before joining Gosschalks in March 2020 as a Trainee Solicitor. Amelia completed her LPC at the University of Law in Leeds alongside working as a fee earner full-time, finishing with a Distinction in June 2020.
Amelia qualified into the Commercial Litigation department in September 2021, with a particular focus on construction based litigation.
Aminah recently graduated from BPP University in 2022 having completed the Legal Practice course with a Master of Laws in Professional Legal Practice. She also graduated from the University of Hull in 2021, having achieved a First-Class Law Degree.
She joined the firm in September 2022, originally starting within the Commercial Property Team. She moved to Residential Conveyancing in March 2023, where she is completing her first training seat. She particularly enjoys the strong client interaction within this department.
Outside of work she enjoys travelling with my family, spending time with friends, swimming and reading.
Andrew joined Gosschalks in 2001 and is a Partner in the Commercial Property department. He holds a senior position within our specialist Pub Team acting for some of the UK's biggest pub companies.
Andrew was born in Pickering, North Yorkshire and educated at Lady Lumley's School.
He has a First Class degree in Economics and a Master's degree in South East Asian Studies. Andrew studied for his Common Professional Examination in Law and Law Society finals at York College of Law.
After joining Gosschalks as an Articled Clerk in 1994, Andrew went on to qualify in September 1996. He is now a Partner in the Property department where he acts primarily on behalf of national clients in the retail, licensed and leisure sectors as well as advising clients on electricity/telecoms wayleaves and easements.
He was joint Managing Partner of the firm from July 2014 to September 2023, a role he shared with Nigel Beckwith.

Andrew advises on all aspects of general corporate law. Andrew's day to day work involves advising on share and business acquisitions and disposals, group reorganisations, finance and security matters, investment agreements, joint venture and shareholder agreements.
Andrew Tarbutt has a broad practice with particular strength in private equity and strategic M&A matters. He possesses noteworthy expertise in the renewable energy sector. Clients say: "He's very organised, very commercial and easy to deal with."
Andrew is a trustee of the Ferens Education Trust and also volunteers as an expert panelist for the FEO Ignition programme, helping startup businesses from the Hull and East Yorkshire region.
Ashleigh studied Law at Lancaster University, graduating with a 2:1 in 2019. She then went on to work as a Paralegal for a large regional firm in Leeds before moving back to East Yorkshire, where she grew up.
Ashleigh studied the LPC at BPP University alongside working as a Paralegal, before starting as a Trainee Solicitor at Gosschalks in September 2023.
Outside of work Ashleigh enjoys spending time with her young son, socialising with family and friends, reading and travelling.
With a down to earth, pragmatic attitude and having qualified as a solicitor in 2015, Ben represents clients in commercial, contentious probate and estate disputes of all sizes, whether they are making a claim or responding to one. Ben is known for taking time to understand his clients' needs and get them the best possible result.
Charlotte who has been a solicitor since 2004, deals with all aspects of commercial property work and acts for a number of well known national and local clients.
Charlotte studied law at the University of Liverpool and graduated with a 2:1 in July 2019. Before joining Gosschalks Commercial Property Team she worked in admin for the local police force.
She finds the nature of the work interesting and enjoys working in the friendly and supportive environment.
Outside of work Charlotte enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading and cooking.
Originally from Cottingham, East Yorkshire, Charlotte studied at the University of Hull and graduated in July 2019 with a 2:1. Having completed her training contract at Gosschalks, Charlotte qualified as a solicitor in our Commercial Property Department in the specialist Pubs Team.
In 2020 Charlotte joined the Licensing team as an Administrator working for large supermarket operators as well as a range of other licenced leisure retail clients.
Chloe studied law at the University of Hull, graduating before going on to complete the LPC at the University of Law. She joined the Wills and Probate department in 2021.
Including in her role to support the fee earners, Chloe assists in drafting Legal documents, file management and supporting clients.
Outside of work she enjoys going to gigs, the gym and going on hikes.
East Yorkshire born Chris studied at Cottingham High School where, at the tender age of 15, started a two-week work placement here at Gosschalks, which confirmed to him that a career in law was the right path for him to take. Chris went on to the University of Hull to study his Law degree and shortly after began his training contract at Gosschalks between 2008 and 2010.
Once qualified, Chris progressed his career firstly in Hull and then most recently in Leeds. He rejoined Gosschalks in October 2014 as a solicitor within the insolvency and commercial litigation departments and has built up a wide range of skills that are required in the legal litigation and insolvency profession.
As part of our insolvency team, Chris is regularly instructed by Liquidators, Administrators, Supervisors of Voluntary Arrangements, Trustees in Bankruptcy and LPA Receivers - as well as banks enforcing their securities. He is known for dealing with matters professionally, efficiently and effectively all without losing the personal touch.

Interests
When she is not at work, Charlotte spends as much time as she can with her young daughter and family enjoying as much of the great outdoors as the British weather will permit. She is also an avid reader and enjoys running and swimming.
