As a Client Services Specialist, she welcomes the opportunity to help clients in any way possible. From scheduling to filling out forms, she is there to help professionally and well. Believing in team support, Annika is genuinely passionate about the success of everyone around her. An eagerness to help, listening with intent, and aiming for 100% accuracy is her key to helping the gears run smoothly. Annika has been married over 20 years and has one daughter. She is skilled in graphic design and helps her husband in his neon shop. She is always open to a book recommendation or a chat over a good cup of coffee.

Fred Borstad - CEO, Founder

Fred Borstad is a founder and principal in the Waterfront Financial Group LLC, and has been a financial advisor since 1993. He works with business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals in the areas of fee-based financial planning, wealth management and insurance planning. The Business Enterprise Institute (BEI) recognizes his qualifications to provide comprehensive exit planning services to business owners. Fred is active in the community and is also on the board of Free Bikes 4 Kidz, is a non-profit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. The public donates gently used bikes, and FB4K organizes thousands of volunteers to clean and refurbish them, which are then given away to kids in need. Fred holds the AIF designation, Accredited Investment Fiduciary. As an AIF, he has the responsibility of a high standard of investment fiduciary care for his clients' accounts and investments. His values include responsibility, excellence, integrity and knowledge, and those same values are embodied in the AIF. Jo Ann Schermann has been in the Client Services Specialist role in the financial industry for over 10 years. During the 10 year period of time, she has received her Series 6 and 63 registrations which are held through LPL Financial. As a Client Services Specialist, she assists the clients along with wearing many hats in the Waterfront Financial Group office. Jo Ann has been married over 30 years and has one daughter. She enjoys visiting vintage and antique shops. She also enjoys gardening during our precious Minnesota summers.

Mark Hegstrom - CEO

Mark Hegstrom is a founder and principal at Waterfront. Mark has been a financial advisor and financial planner since 2001. He works with individuals and families who are in transition. These life's transitions include people who are rebuilding after a divorce, maintaining independence after the loss of a loved one, changing jobs or careers, getting married and starting a family, and preparing and going into retirement. Mark believes that each transition in life is unique to that person, and draws from his experience with others to put together a solution that is specific to every situation. Mark has a passion for retirement income planning. He works with companies to put in place a retirement plan. He meets with every employee, every year, as he feels it is his responsibility to help people saving in a company retirement plan to maximize the benefit and to work toward their retirement goals. Mark writes, manages and implements asset allocation strategies for the Waterfront Financial Group. These allocations are part of a comprehensive financial planning approach that provides a tailor-made investment strategy for each client. As an "Income Distribution Specialist," Mark's focus is not only on the preservation of capital, but putting together customized strategies for clients to aim to provide an income stream in retirement that they cannot outlive. Mark is an excellent public speaker and puts on workshops and seminars around the country on how to put a paycheck in the mailbox for life. Mark is also Certified Exit Planning Advisor. He helps business owners to plan for what may be their single largest lifetime transaction: the transfer of their business and transition into retirement. He works with business owners who are coachable, resourceful and decisive to assess their personal readiness for their exit, financial readiness to exit, and business attractiveness. Exit planning is good business planning, so I also believe a business owner should have a Succession Plan, Continuity Plan and Written Exit Plan. We call this work Business Owner Succession Strategies (BOSS). Mark is an avid golfer, loves the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Ryan Williams

Ryan Williams has been a Twin Cities based wealth management professional since 2008. A Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Ryan specializes in providing comprehensive wealth management services, which include asset management, retirement income planning, risk management, estate preservation, and has extensive knowledge in the various aspects of business planning. Ryan believes in comprehensive wealth management and works closely with clients and their trusted advisors to ensure all aspects of their financial situation are considered and addressed. Working as an independent advisor allows him the freedom to choose the products and services that are suitable for each client without any restrictions or incentives. Prior to joining Waterfront Financial Group, Ryan focused on business owners and their executives and their wealth planning needs at the Partner's Group located in Wayzata, MN. He got his feet wet in this industry at the large local company Thrivent Financial, (formerly Lutheran Brotherhood). Ryan and his wife Kaley live in southwest Minneapolis. In his leisure time, Ryan enjoys world travel with Kaley. He is an avid golfer, snowboarder, outdoorsman, and closet nerd when it comes to technology of all kinds. Don't start a conversation with him about cryptocurrency, blockchain, or bitcoin unless you have a couple hours to spare. Minnesota is where Ryan has always called home. He grew up in Chanhassen, attended high school in Chaska and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business Management and Public Relations. Ryan was the vice president of his Fraternity at the U of M and is an enthusiastic Gopher sports fan.

Samuel Leidholm

Samuel Leidholm started his wealth management career in June of 2020, following college graduation. Samuel attended University of North Dakota where he majored in Finance and Accounting. He was drawn to this career by seeing his family's relationship and growth with their trusted advisor. He has a passion for comprehensive wealth management and the process of helping others plan for the future. Before joining Waterfront, Samuel worked with Northwestern Mutual in downtown Minneapolis, providing comprehensive financial planning for individuals, families, and business owners. Samuel is from central North Dakota, born in the small town of Washburn where his family farm is located. He then moved to Bismarck where he attended Century High School, finishing with academic honors. Samuel is a passionate outdoorsman, golfer, and sports fan. When he is outside of the office, you will find him somewhere on the farm or in the rough on one of Minnesota's pristine golf courses.
