Alec Giffen

Alec joined NEFF in 2012, and also currently works for the Clean Air Task Force. In addition to representing NEFF in Maine, he leads projects like determining how New England's forests could be managed to mitigate climate change, and defining NEFF's Exemplary Forestry standards. Alec previously served as director of the Maine Forest Service and has more than 40 years of experience in natural resource planning and program administration. Alec has an M.S. from the University of California, with an emphasis in ecology, and a B.S. in Forest Science from the University of Maine. Andrea Colnes

Andrea (Andi) joined NEFF's staff in December 2021 and focuses on high-impact, nature-based climate solutions through the management and protection of New England's forests. Andi has led strategic campaigns focused on energy, large-scale land conservation, and sustainable forestry over a 30-year career, most recently as the Director for Global Green Bank Development at the Coalition for Green Capital. She also previously served as a member of the NEFF Board of Directors, and as the founding Executive Director of the Northern Forest Alliance. Andrew Bentley

Andrew joined NEFF in July 2017 as Conservation Easement Manager and became Conservation Easement Director in spring 2022. He oversees nearly 160 easements that protect more than 1.1 million acres of mostly private forestland. Prior to joining NEFF, Andrew worked for seven years in the Conservation Restriction Stewardship program at The Trustees of Reservations as part of a team responsible for stewarding more than 400 Massachusetts easement properties. Andrew studied Regional Planning at UMass Amherst, with a focus in land use and natural resources conservation. Anne Stetson Clerk

Anne is a lawyer and impact investor who advises for-profit and nonprofit organizations seeking to advance social and environmental change through investing and social entrepreneurship. Prior to her consulting work, Anne served as associate general counsel to Grantham, Mayo, Van Otterloo; provided counsel from 1995 to 1998 to Fidelity Investments; and practiced corporate law in New York at Fox & Horan, where she advised foreign and U.S. corporations on their cross-border transactions. She serves on a variety of foundation, nonprofit, and corporate boards and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She has published books and articles in the areas of impact investing and emerging markets investing, and is a frequent speaker at national conferences on topics relating to impact investing. Anne joined the NEFF Board in 2017 and currently serves as the Board Clerk and Chair of the Governance Committee.

Beth's introduction to land trusts was as an AmeriCorps member at Sudbury Valley Trustees in eastern Massachusetts from 2012-2013. Prior to joining NEFF, Beth managed the Appalachian Mountain Club's Bay Circuit Trail volunteer program outside Boston. She has a B.A. in Biology from Oberlin College. Bonnie Cody

Bonnie joined NEFF in January 2022. She has a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Franklin Pierce College and 30 years of accounting experience in various industries, including real estate management, food service, residential and commercial painting, and medical.

Byron Stutzman

Byron and Nancy Stutzman own a 540-acre forest in Hardwick and Ware, MA, and an inholding in the Jefferson National Forest in Virginia. Byron graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in mechanical engineering, then went on to MIT (S.M in mechanical engineering and M.E.), and later, Harvard to study history and French (A.L.M. in each), biology, chemistry, geology, and economics. He was a cofounder and vice president of Computer System Architects, a supplier of software for measuring and managing the performance of application programs. He studied at 10 Eagle Hill Field Seminars in biology and forest ecosystems at the Humboldt Field Research Institute in Maine. He is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of American Foresters, Forest Stewards Guild, Massachusetts Forest Alliance, New England Botanical Society, and American Bryological and Lichenological Society. Byron served on the Board from 2009 to 2019, and after a year off, he was reelected in 2020.

Cameron (Cam) Brandt

Cam is the Director of Research at EPFR, an economic data business he helped establish that was acquired in 2010 by Informa Financial Intelligence. In his current role, Cameron directs a team of researchers who mine a database tracking over 135,000 mutual funds and ETFs around the world worth over $50 trillion in assets. Cam, who holds a degree in economics and political science from Yale University, has co-authored an IFR-published study of portfolio capital flows, produces regular reports on trends that emerge from EPFR's data and contributes to publications including Fonds Europe, Institutional Investor and Africa Investor. He was previously managing editor of The WorldPaper, an international affairs supplement carried by papers in Latin America, Emerging Asia and the EMEA regions with a combined monthly circulation of over 1 million. Cam spends most of his time outside work with his two teenaged children. He is a keen angler, partaking in a pastime he sees as one of the last bastions of true social diversity. Cam joined the NEFF Board in 2020.

Catrina Vear Grant

Catrina joined NEFF in April 2023, and is responsible for coordinating the many moving parts that make up NEFF's $30 million grant from the USDA, facilitating communication, completion of tasks, documentation, and reporting for the grant. Additionally, she researches and pursues new federal funds to empower NEFF's mission. Prior to joining NEFF, Catrina built her grant and project management skills in nonprofits focusing on human rights, animal welfare, and science and nature education. She holds a bachelor's degree from Boston University.

Christine Parrish

Christine leads NEFF's Western Maine Habitat Restoration initiative, which provides wildlife habitat and forestry technical assistance to family and nonprofit landowners. She has a degree in Natural Resources from Cornell University and spent a decade working as a wildlife, forestry and fisheries biotechnician for federal agencies before earning a master's in writing and communication. Prior to joining NEFF in 2019, Christine spent 20 years as a journalist specializing in foreign policy, humanitarian and conservation issues. She is based in rural Maine. Areas of Expertise: Outreach and project leadership, coordination and development. Christine is passionate about using oral storytelling to connect people to each other and the planet, and serves on NEFF's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice team

Christopher (Chris) di Bonaventura

Chris joined NEFF's Board in 2020 and serves on the Executive and Finance Committees. He has been interested in forests since childhood, having spent a good part of every year in the piney woods of South Georgia. Today, Chris oversees a family property in the Red Hills of South Georgia, managed for the production of wild bobwhite quail and a healthy long leaf pine forest. At Yale University, he serves on the Advisory Board of the Yale School of the Environment and College of Forestry. Chris's other activities at Yale include serving on the advisory boards of the Yale School of Music and the Yale University Libraries. He is a member of the Board of the Pioneer Institute, and is a Life Trustee of the North Shore-LIJ Health System on Long Island. Chris worked in financial services until his retirement in 2021. In addition to a Psychology degree from Yale, he has an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business.

Colleen Ryan Forest

Colleen is a forest ecologist with 20 years of experience synthesizing, interpreting and communicating complex scientific information. Her work prior to joining NEFF included building ecosystem models for the LANDFIRE program, coordinating Maine's Beginning with Habitat program, forest restoration for the Nature Conservancy, and research on human-wildlife conflicts for the Wildlife Conservation Society. Colleen has a Master of Forestry from the Yale School of the Environment and a B.A. in biology from Harvard University. Corey Wrinn Stewardship

Corey joined NEFF in July 2022 to support Community Forest and conservation easement monitoring and stewardship projects. While he engages with easement landowners and walks NEFF's fee lands during the field season, he uses iNaturalist to document the flora, fauna and fungi found within NEFF forests. He was a TerraCorps Member at Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust from 2019-2020, and then worked as Conservation Restriction Stewardship Technician with The Trustees before joining NEFF. Corey has a B.S. in Natural Resource Conservation from UMass Amherst. Daniel Hohl

Dan oversees forest management on all NEFF Community Forests and supports implementation of the Climate-Smart Commodities program. He is familiar with New England forests and the management of forest stands, including the economics of timber harvests, forest health, invasive species threats, and silvicultural prescriptions. He brings a wealth of expertise through his work with the Maine Coast Heritage Trust and USDA Forest Service, and forestry work in other regions. Dan has a B.S. in forest management from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry

David (Tracy) Moskovitz - VP

Tracy is a lawyer, an engineer, and a conservationist. After serving as a Commissioner at the Maine Public Utilities Commission, he founded The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP), a non-governmental global organization dedicated to accelerating the transition to a clean, reliable, and efficient energy future. Currently, Tracy devotes about 25 percent of his time to RAP. Tracy and his wife, Bambi Jones, moved to Maine in 1978 and began buying and conserving land. In 2010, Bambi and Tracy created Hidden Valley Nature Center (HVNC) and operated it on 1,000 acres of their land in Jefferson. In 2014, they were named Maine's and the Northeast Region's Outstanding Tree Farm for their decades of low-impact sustainable forestry and educational efforts. In 2016, HVNC participated in a four-way merger that created Midcoast Conservancy with the aim of transforming land trusts from passive holders of easements and land to an active entity seriously engaged in outdoor activities and low-impact sustainable forestry. Tracy is on the Board of the Midcoast Conservancy.

David Ayers

Donna Sibley

Donna joined NEFF in March 2004 as the administrative assistant for the Littleton office, working part time. In 2017, she left Oak Meadow Montessori in Littleton, where she had been teaching since 1998, to join NEFF on a full-time basis. Prior to joining NEFF, Donna had also worked for the nonprofit Hudson Youth Center.

Elizabeth Swain

Elizabeth is a senior project manager with POWER Engineers specializing in strategic communications and environmental permitting. She began her career at the Maine Audubon Society, overseeing a team of foresters advising landowners on selective harvesting for firewood production. After obtaining a Master of Forestry from Yale in 1983, she worked for NEFF on the Pingree Forest and Downeast Lakes Conservation Easements, and for the Forest Society of Maine on the West Branch Conservation Easement. Elizabeth was the President of Barton & Gingold, a boutique consulting firm where she focused primarily on renewable energy and land planning projects. For decades she orchestrated stakeholder communications and mediated disputes over siting issues. She served as chair of Maine's quasi-judicial Land Use Regulation Commission, where she presided over complex, multi-party hearings on a wide range of issues and projects. More recently, she has focused on solar energy and electric infrastructure projects to address climate change. Elizabeth has served on numerous environmental boards and is Vice President of the Vinalhaven Land Trust.

Emily Dwyer

Emily is a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Brown Advisory, an independent investment management firm. She currently serves as portfolio manager of Brown Advisory's Sustainable Small-Cap Core Strategy and assists with new sustainable investing product development. Prior to this role, Emily served as the director of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Equity Research at Brown Advisory, working to establish the firm's ESG research process and team. A graduate of Smith College, Emily came to Brown Advisory with a breadth of experience in the Sustainable Investing space, having held research positions at Parnassus Investments, Sustainalytics, and the United Nations Environmental Programme Finance Initiative. She has been an active member of local sustainable investing groups, such as Women Investing in a Sustainable Economy ("WISE") since 2014. In 2019, Emily was named to the SRI Conference's list of "30 Under 30" sustainable investing professionals.

Frederick J. (Rick) Weyerhaeuser - President

Rick is Senior Natural Resource Strategist for Sonen Capital, a San Francisco based impact investment firm. From 2011-2014, he was Co-managing General Partner of Sustainable Resource Fund (SRF), a start-up private equity fund investing in managers of rural real estate who add financial value using assorted conservation strategies. From 2000-2011 he was a Director and Senior Project Manager for The Lyme Timber Company. Prior to joining Lyme, Rick worked with The Pinchot Institute for Conservation and The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to develop and promote sustainable forestry programs in the U.S. He is a former State Director of the Massachusetts Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and for ten years was Director of the World Wildlife Fund's Africa Program. Rick was a founding board and former executive committee member of the National Alliance of Forest Owners. Rick earned a B.S. from Yale University in 1977 and a Master of Forest Science from Yale in 1983. He has been a member of the New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) Board since 1999 and currently serves as President.

G. Montgomery (Monty) Lovejoy III

Monty is a Principal and Director of Manufacturing Key Clients for Ramboll. Ramboll is a global sustainability engineering and consulting company based in Denmark. He is responsible for developing business with industrial companies across the Americas. Monty is a founding member and past Board Member of NAEM, a professional association dedicated to the advancement of environmental, health and safety managers in business across the country. Monty formerly served on the Town of Concord's Natural Resources Commission and as Chair of the Conservation Restriction Stewardship Committee. He is a trustee of the Blue Hills Foundation, which has conserved and actively manages more than 8,000 acres in central New Hampshire. Monty holds a B.S. in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Vermont. He served on the NEFF Board of Directors from 1986 to 2004, during which time he held the positions of Chairman and President. After leaving the Board, he continued to serve as a member of the Board of Advisors until he was re-elected to the Board of Directors in 2014.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Perry O'Connor

Jackie O'Connor is an independent nonprofit consultant with extensive experience in senior-level fund development and administrative/management positions with nonprofit organizations throughout New England. Since 2000, Jackie has consulted with NEFF and other organizations on a wide variety of special fundraising and conservation projects. As V.P. of Hiller Associates, she served as consulting capital campaign director for NEFF's groundbreaking Pingree Forest Partnership land conservation campaign in Maine. She served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Crittenton Women's Union (now EMPATH), as well as Director of Philanthropy at The Nature Conservancy Massachusetts, and has worked at several other New England conservation organizations including AMC, Manomet and The Greenway Conservancy. She has a B.S. from UMass Boston.

Jen Shakun

Jennifer leads NEFF's work to develop the forest-based bioeconomy in New England by promoting wood-based materials as a lower carbon, ecologically sound material sourced from climate-beneficial forestry practices. Before joining NEFF in 2019, she was an Applied Forest Scientist at Manomet working with large forest landowners on climate adaptation, and a Project Manager at INRS, LLC. Jennifer has a B.S. in Biology from Saint Michael's College and dual master's degrees in Forestry and Environmental Management from Duke's Nicholas School of the Environment. She is also a Certified Forester.

John van der Stricht

John is a Vice President in the Forestry and Agriculture practice for The Rohatyn Group, which acquired his former employer, GMO Renewable Resources. He is also founder and President of Jedburgh Holdings, investing in timber and farmland throughout the northeastern U.S. and Canada. John was a founding member of the Tompkins Conservation Advisory Council and is a certified forester. John earned his B.A. in Economics from Trinity College, an MBA from the Yale School of Management, and a Master of Forestry from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Science. John joined the NEFF Board in 2019. He is a proud father and husband to a lovely wife who will one day let him fish more often.

Laurence (Larry) Band

Larry is an independent consultant to foundations and nonprofit organizations on finance and market-related issues in environmental policy, and to impact investors on investment strategies. Most of his work has focused on fishery, agriculture and land use issues, as well as clean energy and energy-efficiency deployment. In addition to his consulting work, Larry is a board member of the California Fisheries Fund (a revolving loan fund that invests in the fishing industry on the West Coast) and the Conservation Strategy Fund, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Previously, he worked at Lehman Brothers as an investment banker advising corporations on a wide variety of strategic and financing transactions. Larry graduated from Stanford University with a B.S in Biology and a B.A. in Political Science, and from Harvard Graduate School of Business with an MBA. Larry joined the NEFF Board in 2018.

Lindsay Sherman

Lisa Hayden

Lisa joined NEFF in 2014 to lead outreach in the 38-town MassConn Woods, connecting landowners with resources to make long-term plans for their land. She now represents NEFF as Administrative Agent to the Woodlands Partnership of Northwest Massachusetts, a 21-town region working on forest conservation and sustainable rural development. She previously worked for The Nature Conservancy on climate policy and communications. Lisa holds a B.A. in Journalism from UConn and an M.A. in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University. Areas of Expertise: With experience in communications, grant writing and project management, Lisa focuses on woodland owner outreach, and building partnerships to advance conservation and sustainable forestry as part of natural climate solutions.

Maria Garcia

Maria is responsible for all of NEFF's financial functions, including accounting, audit, treasury, corporate finance, and investor relations. She also oversees and manages all human resources, IT, and facilities activities. Her career spans more than 30 years of varied experience in financial management, business leadership, and corporate strategy. Before joining the New England Forestry Foundation in 2003, Maria served as the Accounting Manager for JP Morgan Investor Services in their investment management division based in Boston. Areas of Expertise: Earlier in her career, Maria held senior-level positions in investments, communications technology, and environmental specialty contracting companies

Meaghan Guyader

Meaghan joined NEFF in 2022. Her background is in environmental engineering, emerging contaminant research, and environmental justice organizing. She is now eager to strike a new path into the world of conservation. As Executive Assistant, she ensures coordination amongst staff and external partners in all of NEFF's operations. This position has helped orient her to sustainable forestry and the current approach to New England land protection. She aims to decolonize these practices while serving as staff chair on NEFF's Board/Staff Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice team.

Michael Lehner

Since 1996, Michael has been a partner of McDonald Lehner, a specialized business brokerage firm that assists owners of privately held companies in raising capital or finding liquidity options. He is also a director at Leigh Fibers, LLC, family-held fiber and textile recycling company based in Wellford, SC and at ICE Recycling, LLC, a family-held industrial byproduct recycling company based in Lake City, SC. Before that, he was Chief Investment Officer at the Defense Enterprise Fund, a taxpayer-funded venture capital fund, authorized by Congress under the Nunn-Lugar Act of 1991, which invested in defense conversion projects in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Earlier, he spent ten years at Fletcher Spaght, Inc., a strategy-consulting firm that specialized in advising technology startups, as well as four years at Wang Laboratories, Inc., as a production engineer and manager. He earned a B.A from Harvard College in 1977, and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University in 1980. He joined the NEFF Board in 2019.

Penny Flynn

Penny joined NEFF in 1995 and is currently the Development Manager. She is involved with all aspects of NEFF's fundraising program, helping to secure the funding necessary to pursue our mission. Prior to joining NEFF, Penny worked in commercial and residential real estate for more than 10 years. She has a B.S. in marketing/management from Bentley University. Robert Perschel

Robert (Bob) Perschel joined NEFF in April 2012. Previously Bob was the Eastern region director for the Forest Stewards Guild. In his 40 years as an environmental professional, he has worked on forestry, large landscape conservation, and wilderness issues. Bob worked for the forest industry before establishing his own forestry consulting business and founding the Land Ethic Institute. He is an original co-founder of the Forest Stewards Guild. Bob has a master's degree in forestry from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and a psychology degree from Yale College. Previously he was President and subsequently Chairman of Sheffield Steel Corporation, President and CEO of Lincoln Pulp and Paper Co., Inc., President of Premoid Corporation and Vice President and Director of Preco Corporation. Bob graduated from Yale University with a B.S. in Industrial Administration and received his MBA and DBA from the Harvard Business School. He was an Assistant Professor and Lecturer in Business Policy at the Harvard Business School for six years and later taught in the Advanced Management Program. Earlier in his career, he worked for the accounting firm of Arthur Young & Co. and is a CPA. Bob is President of the Timber Owners of New England and the immediate past Chairman of The Nature Conservancy, Massachusetts Chapter. He is a Director of Aquacultural Research Corporation and The Appalachian Mountain Club. Bob joined the NEFF Board in 2009 and currently serves as the Treasurer.

Sophie Anthony Conservation

Sophie joined NEFF in November 2017, and focuses on land protection projects across New England and supports NEFF's conservation efforts through communications with private landowners. She also manages the implementation of the Pooled Timber Income Fund, which uses planned giving principles to draw new lands into protection. Sophie graduated from Connecticut College in 2015 with a B.A. in Environmental Science and gained experience during her time at the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, where she was a Directors' Fellow and then a Project Manager. Tiffany Mierop

Tiffany joined NEFF in October 2023 and helps to support NEFF's finance team with a focus on invoicing, reporting, and analysis. She has 10+ years of accounting experience, and previously worked for a human services agency and a medical office. Tiffany holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from UMass Amherst, and has lived in Vermont, Massachusetts, and most recently New Hampshire. In her free time, she loves to travel and spend time with family, friends, and her Boston Terrier, Ellie.

Tinsley Hunsdorfer

Tinsley joined NEFF in fall 2017, and manages NEFF's public-facing communications efforts, leads organization-wide strategic communications planning, and serves as lead writer for NEFF's major publications. On a day-to-day basis, she oversees the organization's newsletter, website, blog, social media presence, and various outreach materials. She has a B.A. in English from Grinnell College and previously worked for the National Audubon Society, Portland Audubon and Oregon Zoo.

Todd Rodman

Todd is a partner with the law firm of Seder & Chandler, LLP, in Worcester, MA. He has developed a broad-ranging real estate practice representing individuals, real estate development companies, pension funds, REIT's, financial institutions, nonprofits and others in connection with the acquisition, development, sale, leasing, management, permitting, construction and financing of commercial and residential properties. His work includes a special emphasis on the representation of not-for-profit corporations in connection with the permitting, financing and development of affordable housing. He serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau, he is the past President of Community Legal Aid of Central Massachusetts, and is a past director of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Empowerment Center. Todd joined the NEFF Board in 2019.

Vanessa Komada

Vanessa works to develop, document, and promote a climate-smart wood supply chain in New England as part of the market development team of NEFF's Climate-Smart Commodities program. Their interests range from forest economics, disturbance regime guided silviculture, and environmental justice, with experience in the forests of the Midwest and West Coast. Vanessa has had the privilege to work with a variety of stakeholders, nonprofits, government organizations, and private landowners over the years and holds a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a M.F. from UC Berkeley.

William Brune

Job Titles:

Will joined NEFF in 2017 to lead NEFF's land conservation efforts across New England. He comes to NEFF with 24 years of conservation experience, including 20 years with The Nature Conservancy working in Maine, the Adirondacks, Zambia, and Indonesia. He holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from St. Lawrence University. Will is an avid hunter, angler and fur trapper.
