Fr. James D. Redington

Job Titles:
  • Assistant Director / the Jesuit Center
Father James Redington, SJ is a Jesuit Fellow in the Jesuit Center. Raised in Moosic and Green Ridge, Father has returned to the Scranton area after more than half a century as a Jesuit. An expert in interreligious dialogue, one of the Jesuits' priorities since 1995, he earned his Ph.D. in Hinduism (with a minor in Buddhism) from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and has taught related courses for many years at Georgetown University, Arrupe College in Zimbabwe, the Jesuit School of Theology and St. Joseph's University. Years of engaging in interreligious and interfaith dialogue have taught him that such dialogue - accompanied by action - is one of the major ways we can love our neighbor as ourselves. He is animated by recognition of the fact that while almost 5 billion of the world's 7.3 billion people are not Christian, they are all our neighbors. Father Redington hopes to provide opportunities for both learning about and experiencing interreligious dialogue here at the University of Scranton.

Fr. Richard G. Malloy

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Education Committee
  • Member of the Finance Committee
  • Member of the Student Life Committee
Fr. Richard G. Malloy, S.J. currently serves as the Director of Mission and Ministry, Crito Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore, MD. Fr. Malloy, aka "Mugs," was born at Temple University hospital in Philadelphia, the friendly city of brotherly shove. He earned a doctorate at Temple. So, he didn't go very far in life! He graduated from St. Joe's Prep, the Jesuit High School in Philadelphia. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he played football, lacrosse, and Rugby. He was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity and is very happy there was no internet in the 1970s to record any of his undergraduate shenanigans. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate in Wernersville, PA. While in Jesuit formation, he spent two years teaching High School in Osorno, Chile and one year in Pastoral work in Santiago. His book, A Faith That Frees: Catholic Matters for the 21st Century (Orbis Books, 2008), examines the relationships between the practices of faith and the cultural currents and changes so rapidly occurring in our global world. He has also published Being On Fire: the Top Ten Essentials of Catholic Faith (Orbis Books 2014). His third book, Spiritual Direction: a Beginner's Guide was published by Orbis in the Fall of 2017. All three books were recognized with awards by the Catholic Press Association in the category "Best Presentation of the Catholic Faith." He lived and worked as a member of the Jesuit Urban Service team at Holy Name Parish in Camden, NJ, from 1988-2003. While in Camden, he also served in various positions at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. At the University of Scranton he is the University Chaplain and teaches courses in Anthropology, Sociology and Theology. He lives in a First Year dorm (anthropological fieldwork!). Fishing is his passion in life, and he prays for the day when he will catch a 10 lb. trout or a 47 inch Muskie. He is convinced that such a catch, the Eagles winning (another!!!) Super Bowl, or the Phillies beating the Yankees in the World Series, are all sure signs that the second coming of Jesus is imminent.

  • Distinguished Senior Producer for 60 MINUTES
Nicole Young is a distinguished senior producer for 60 MINUTES, America's most-watched news program, now in its 57th season. Few producers have achieved as much as Young at her age, and many of the major awards won by the broadcast have been for stories she produced. She has earned 16 News and Documentary Emmy Awards, three Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Awards, eight Writers Guild Awards, five Edward R. Murrow Awards, two Gerald Loeb Awards, two Sigma Delta Chi Awards, six National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Salute to Excellence Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, a George Polk Award, an Investigative Reporters & Editors Award, a Gracie Award, a Media for Liberty Award, and a Wilbur Award. Young's most recent 60 MINUTES assignments have taken her to cover critical global events, such as the war in Ukraine, the fall of Syria's dictator, the devastating earthquakes in Turkey, the deadly tornadoes in Kentucky, and the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also covered social injustice, President Donald Trump, the attempted assassination of Trump, and high-profile interviews with celebrities, including Cillian Murphy. She has produced in-depth stories on Syria's front lines, the famines in South Sudan and Yemen, and toxic electronic waste in China. Young's innate interest and skill in storytelling often take her to some of the most dangerous places in the world. Her fearless reporting includes investigations on civilian deaths due to airstrikes in Afghanistan, the gold mining conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo and being on the ground after the tsunami in Japan. However, some of her most pivotal stories have focused on issues closer to home, such as job loss, poverty, homelessness, and child hunger in the United States. In addition to producing stories for 60 MINUTES correspondent Scott Pelley, Young leads special projects for the newsmagazine, including the development of the broadcast's first free streaming channel. She also held a senior producer position at CBS EVENING NEWS, covering major events such as the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, the election of Pope Francis, and interviews with President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Elie Wiesel, and President Bill Clinton. Nicole Young began her career at CBS News as an intern at 19, working in Washington, D.C., London, and New York. She joined 60 MINUTES in 2004 as Scott Pelley's assistant and became his producer a few years later. When she's not on the road producing her next story, Nicole Young resides in the New York area with her family.
