Founded in 2017, The Schmidt Institute's mission is to inspire the development and spread of innovative, research-based models of care that support rural populations across the healthcare continuum... The Schmidt Institute will pursue clinical and translational research in its various forms, including the rigorous evaluation and dissemination of new models of care. We define innovation as: blowing things up…taking radically new and different approaches to health care delivery when they make sense for rural settings/practices (not simply process improvement). Our work will focus on meaningful collaboration and partnership between providers, funders, technology companies, and existing research institutions, in addition to patients and community-based organizations.
