Amelia Austin

I'm a speech and language therapy student and applied to become a trustee to get more involved in city life when I first moved here. Being a trustee of the Burton Street Foundation is privilege as I get to hear about the vital work the organisation does and positive impact it is having, especially on people with learning disabilities. I feel I have a lot to learn from the organisation, which is doing important work in the face of the considerable challenges which beset the social care sector. I also hope to contribute by drawing on my 15 years of PR and communications experience to help with further profile raising so that more people can discover this welcoming community within the Sheffield community.

Being multilingual, I have helped women from ethnic communities to learn English, and even presented for ethnic programmes on BBC Radio Sheffield. I am currently learning Spanish.
