Alex Mejias

Job Titles:
  • Amazon Ads' Brand Innovation Lab As Lead Design Technologist
  • Head of Experience Development Reporting Directly to HPE
Alex Mejias graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005 with a major in Graphic and Interactive Design. In the early days of his career, he pursued web design and development with a focus on marketing websites and landing pages. After working as a motion designer in the NYC Advertising industry for four years, Alex began to pursue designer and developer hybrid roles. In mid-2008, he founded Lazers Interactive. Lazers was a one-stop-shop vendor for ad agencies, such as Crispin Porter Bogusky, BBH, Droga5, Saatchi & Saatchi, and BBDO. The shop provided design and development services for Realtor.com, Bank of New York, TouchTunes Interactive, and TAG Heuer. Client services included design, development, 3d modeling and animation, motion graphics, and rich web application development. Fast forward to 2016 when Alex took on a full-time role with a long-time client, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, as a senior full-stack developer. This role allowed him to contribute to enterprise-grade projects by leveraging his diverse set of design and development skills while mastering JavaScript on the backend, system design, React, and front-end development. In January of 2019, Alex was promoted to Head of Experience Development reporting directly to HPE's Chief Design Officer. In this new role, Alex built a high performing team of twenty UI/UX designers and engineers responsible for crafting and implementing exceptional user experiences. During this stage in his career, Alex focused on growing his team member's careers and skillsets through measured achievement tracking and continuous, direct feedback. December of 2020, Alex joined Amazon Ads' Brand Innovation Lab as Lead Design Technologist. During his first year at Amazon, he was responsible for creating immersive digital experiences and prototypes for brands such as Pepsi, L'Oreal, Proctor & Gamble, Apple, Nintendo, and Calvin Klein. As Design Tech Lead, Alex managed a small team of Design Technologists. His team enabled pre-sales activities by building functional prototypes, provided technical leadership to the global Amazon Ads organization, and created polished production grade executions displayed throughout Amazon.com and Fire TV. In just one year, Alex was able to proactively innovate Amazon Ads' developer toolset by creating a reusable component library to accelerate landing page building and delivered Amazon Ads' first augmented reality advertising experience. Today, Alex operates as Senior Manager of Design Technology for Amazon's Brand Innovation lab. He continues to expand the hybrid nature of his work by incorporating people leadership skills into his existing design and development acumen.
